Locastro first to be selected in MLB draft

Ithaca's standout shortstop Tim Locastro was the first D-III player selected in the 2013 MLB amateur draft. Locastro was taken in the 13th round by Toronto, 385th overall.

The wait for the second player was not long. Eighteen picks later, Joseph Odom was selected by the Atlanta Braves the 403rs pick in the 13th round. Odom caught MLB scouts' attention when he hit .350-17-46 on the summer and led the Valley League in home runs.

Sul Ross State pitcher Dakota Dill went in the 26th round to the Atlanta Braves, while Christopher Newport righty William Chrismon went in the same round to the Astros. UW-La Crosse righty Joel Effertz was taken by the Marlins in the 28th round.

Western Connecticut outfielder Conor Bierfeldt was selected in the 29th round, going 879th overall to Baltimore, while Concordia (Texas) right-hander Ryan Ullmann went in the following round, 916th overall to the Nationals. Pacific Lutheran pitcher, Max Beatty was a 32nd round pick of San Diego (958th overall).

Keystone right-hander Rob Rogers, who 1-hit Kean to keep the Giants alive in the regionals, was taken in the 32nd round by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 964th overall. Kenyon first baseman Jesse Weiss went to the Brewers with the 1,082nd overall pick, in the 36th round, while the Indians took Cal Lutheran switch-hitting second baseman Garrett Smith in the 37th round with the 1,101st overall selection. Kean right-hander Kevin Herget went 1,175th overall to the Cardinals, a 39th-round pick.

Right handers Tyler Brunnemann, Hardin-Simmons and P.J. Cerreto of Ramapo were the final D-III players selected. Brunnemann was a 40th round pick (1,187th overall) of the Houston Astros and Cerreto was a 40th round selection (1,215th overall) by Cincinnati.
