Nordstrom to take over Finlandia program

For the 2015 mens' baseball season, Coach Nordstrom will take on the interim head coaching role for the Lion's program.  As an avid and high level baseball athlete in the local community, Steve has coached and volunteered tirelessly within the youth baseball organization locally and is currently serving as the president of the Portage Lake Little League Assocation.  Nordstrom replaces William Williams who coach the 2013-14 season, with a 3-27 record.

Steve Nordstrom was hired as the Assistant Professor of Sports Management and university golf coach in August 2013.  He brings with him thirteen years of experience working at the intercollegiate Division II and III levels. As Finlandia University assistant athletic director from 2000 to 2007, Nordstrom assisted in the growth of Finlandia’s Athletic Department, helping to add eleven athletic programs and achieve NCAA Division III affiliation. From 2003 to 2007, Nordstrom served as the head women’s basketball coach, taking the team to NSCAA National Championship in 2004 and an NCAA D-III Independent regional tournament victory in 2005.

From 2007 to 2013 Nordstrom was the director of athletic development at Michigan Technological University, raising money for the Huskies athletic programs. During his time at Michigan Tech, $1 million was raised to construct new skyboxes and suites in the John MacInnes Student Ice arena, as well as $650,000 to install field turf to Sherman Field and $750,000 to upgrade to video scoreboard in the ice arena. His duties also included developing an annual giving program for all thirteen athletic programs.

Steve was born and raised in the Hancock, Michigan and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Michigan Tech. He continued his education while working and earned a Master of Arts degree from Concordia University of Chicago in 2010.

Steve currently resides in Atlantic Mine with his wife, Myra, and eight children. His hobbies include playing sports, volunteering for youth athletics and spending time with his family.
