Texas not kind to ranked teams

Sam Stauble and Kyle O’Connor combined for five hits and six RBI to lead the Southern Maine to a 12-3 non-conference victory over the Salem State Vikings Friday afternoon at the Central Campus Baseball Field. Stauble was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI while O’Connor was 2-for-3, including his first collegiate home run, with three runs scored and three RBI.  Richard Fecteau had three singles for the Vikings.

Will Preston allowed only two hits and two runs in eight innings on the mound, and Southwestern knocked off No. 12 Centenary in the ASC series opener, 4-3, at Shehee Stadium. Preston, who improved to 3-1 on the season, gave up a hit and two runs (one earned) in the opening frame. The 6-foot-7 right-hander then kept the Gents scoreless over the next seven panels before handing the ball over to the bullpen.

William Paterson opened up a 4-0 lead and held a late Kean rally in check to secure a 4-2 victory. In the ninth inning, Kean's Sal Taormina infield base hit and subsequent fielder's choice made it a 4-2 margin. Kean still had the bases loaded with zero outs, but two strikeouts and a groundout ended the threat and the game.

Scott Ericksen was outstanding on the mound, Devon DeRaad continues to be a nightmare for SCIAC pitchers and No. 24 Occidental made it 19 wins in its last 20 games with an 8-2 victory at La Verne on Friday.

LaGrange banged out a season-high 20 hits in beating Maryville 14-6 in a USA South game Friday night at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers also tied their season best in runs scored as they improved to 26-10 overall and 12-4 in conference play. The win was the 13th straight for the Panthers, tying for the second longest in the NCAA era of the program.

La Roche freshman catcher Shane Roebuck had a seventh inning RBI double and run to help lift the Redhawks to a 3-2 win over Marietta. Freshman starting pitcher Nick Tunstall did not allow an earn run (2 unearned runs) in 5.2 innings while Shane Emrich and Trey Claar each threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

SUNY Old Westbury compiled 22-1 and 17-0 Skyline Conference home wins against the Yeshiva Maccabees  from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Old Westbury put both games away early with an eight runs in game one and ten in Game two in the first inning of both games.

Behind a complete game two-hitter by freshman Wyatt Sibiqa, the Gators earned an 8-2 victory over visiting Penn State-Behrend at the Robertson Athletic Complex.  Sibiga earned his first career victory, retiring the side in order in six different innings, while a productive Gator offense racked 12 hits and scored five runs with two outs.

Simpson held off a late rally by Dubuque to win game one 7-6 and trailed 5-2 in the ninth inning of game two before it was suspended due to darkness. The final inning will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday before the regularly scheduled doubleheader. Austin Burlin hit his Iowa Conference-leading seventh home run of the season in the first inning of game one and went 3-for-4 with a double in the nightcap, extending his hitting streak to 24 games dating back to last season.

No. 4 Ramapo faced off with the Red Hawks of Montclair State today in a NJAC where Ramapo came out on 8-2 to jump ahead to 19-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC.  With the loss the Red Hawks fall to 11-10 and 2-1 in conference play. Brandon Martinez led the team as he hit 2-4 including a two-run home run.  He scored two runs and drove in three on the day.

In a game that lasted just over two hours Worcester State took a 3-1 decision over home standing Endicott at North Field. Mike Ferrara paced the squad with a 4-for-4 effort at the dish as the Lancers registered seven hits.

Texas Lutheran knocked off No. 1-ranked Trinity (texas) 8-4 and improved to 10-0 in the SCAC with the road win at Trinity Baseball Field. TLU freshman right-hander Narhan Malinovsky pitched seven strong innings and moved to 7-1. Malinovsky allowed four runs, struck out two and walked two. Keaton Bohrmann drove in three, collected three hits and started the game-ending double play in the ninth.

Covenant stayed hot even if the weather was a little cool for early April. Five different Scots drove in at least two runs as Covenant scored 13 runs on 14 hits in a 13-8 victory over Piedmont in USA South action. With the win, Covenant claimed the series victory over the visiting Lions and also made a move up the USA South standings. Covenant has clinched a spot in next week's USA South Tournament, but its seeding is yet to be determined.

Grove City jumped out to a 7-1 lead and recorded a season-high 17 hits to outlast a Saint Vincent comeback attempt as the Wolverines earned a 10-7 victory over the Bearcats in a nine-inning PAC game at Bearcat Ballfield on a cold afternoon. Freshman left fielder Shane Hammel went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs

Coming alive in the bottom of the ninth inning, Central earned a walk-off 4-3 win to complete the sweep on the back end of a twinbill against Coe. The Dutch won handily in the opener over the Kohawks by a 13-3 margin.

Arcadia took the opening game of its three-game MAC Commonwealth series with Albright by a final count of 6-2 at Erny Field. The Knights improved to 7-3 in MAC Commonwealth play with the win, while the Lions remain winless in conference play.

Keystone swept a CSAC doubeheader at Cairn, using a big second inning to post a 12-3 victory in the opener before  scoring a pair of late runs to earn a 2-0 shutout win in the nightcap. Louis Reyes extended his hitting streak to 20 games while Chris Triano hit two home runs.

Johns Hopkins head coach Bob Babb won his 1,056th career game, 5-3 over host Dickinson. Nick Burns got the start for the Blue Jays and was dominant over 8.1 innings, scattering four hits and striking out six, while not allowing a walk. Carter Burns came in with the tying runner on second and two outs and was able to get a groundout to earn his first-career save. Conor Reynolds, Raul Shah andMitch Weaver led the Blue Jays' offense as each recorded two hits and helped lead Hopkins to a season sweep of Dickinson.

Sophomore Steven D'Agostino scattered four hits over seven innings to help lead WPI to a 4-3 victory over Clark in both teams' NEWMAC West Division opener at the New England Baseball Complex.
