Junior Teddy Carey allowed just one hit over seven innings and classmates Adam Ayala and David Lennon each drove in a pair of runs as visiting Babson defeated Massachusetts Maritime, 5-0, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field. Carey struck out five and walked four while allowing just a leadoff single in the first to move to 2-0 on the year. Junior Matt Cuneo struck out the side in the ninth to wrap up the Beavers' two-hit shutout.
No. 2 Shenandoah earned its first road victory of the season in a 5-1 non-league win at Mary Washington. Freshman Gerard DePhillips tossed a complete game six-hitter for the Hornets. DePhillips allowed only a ninth inning home run while striking out eight and walking two in throwing the squad's first complete game of the season. The Florham Park, New Jersey native retired the first 10 UMW hitters in order and also had a 1-2-3 eighth.
No. 5 ranked UW-Whitewater was strong in all facets Thursday night, opening its 2017 season with consecutive victories over St. Thomas (Minn.) in non-conference play at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Warhawks bested the Tommies 5-2 in the opener before closing the night with a 10-1 triumph. Junior Austin Jones and senior Westin Wuethrich in his Warhawk debut earned wins for UWW.
Millikin defeated MacMurray 6-4 in a game played at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois. Seth Coffey led the Millikin attack going 3-5 with two RBIs. Jake Drada was also 3-5. Devin Crews had two hits and two RBIs. Justin Renou led MacMurray going 2-5 with an RBI.
Johns Hopkins broke open a 4-2 game at York (Pa.) with seven runs in the eighth inning to top the Spartans, 11-2, in the Blue Jays’ first road game of 2017. The Blue Jays hit eight doubles on the day with Conor Reynolds account for three by himself.
For the first time since 2014, Edgewood opened their season with a victory. Jonathan Roehler had two hits and two runs batted in as the Eagles topped Sewanee 8-4 at the Tigers' Montgomery Field. Thursday's game was the Eagles' first contest before heading to Fort Myers, Fla. for the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Lebanon Valley finished up action down in Florida, splitting with Kenyon. The Lords edged out the Dutchmen 3-1 in the first game, but LVC took down Kenyon 6-1 in the nightcap to earn the split. Kenyon's Jesse Bogacz picked up the win after tossing 6.2 innings and surrendering two earned runs with eight strikeouts. Timothy Holdredge went six innings and allowed just four hits and no earned runs to go along with two strikeouts for the win in game two.

Anna Maria picked up two victories in a doubleheader with Baruch. In game one the AMCATS downed the Bearcats, 4-3 and then went on to pick up a 2-1 victory in game two of the day. The two wins were the first wins of the season for Anna Maria.
Concordia-Chicago stayed hot after an off day yesterday. Freshman Noah Dressler gave the team a solid effort in his first collegiate start, and the #25 Cougars held on for a 5-4 win over Montclair State at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, FL. The win was the sixth straight for CUC after two losses to start the season.
Wesley earned a 9-6 victory over the Eastern Eagles in a non-conference matchup at Bob Reed Field. Ryan Devine registered his first victory of the season in a 3.1 innings of relief. The 1-5 hitters for Wesley accounted for 10 hits and eight runs batted in.
Junior Nanak Saran worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth inning by inducing a game-ending double play as 12th-ranked College of Wooster topped Capital 3-1 in its season-opener at Clowson Field in Columbus. Wooster's pitchers led the way as senior Michael Houdek and Saran combined on a seven-hitter. Houdek, who earned the win, went five innings, scattered five hits, allowed one unearned run, and struck out six before giving way to Saran. Saran, who earned his second career save, cruised through his first two innings of work with three strikeouts, and then issued a leadoff walk in the eighth inning. Wooster's sophomore middle infield combination of Jacob Stuursma and Michael Wielansky quickly erased that base runner with a 4-6-3 double play. For the game, Wooster turned three double plays including one in the fifth inning that wiped out a one-out Capital single.
Nationally third-ranked Cortland scored 13 runs in the sixth inning, the most in an inning since 2004, to overpower Arcadia, 23-3, in non-league action. The Red Dragons last scored 13 runs in the fourth inning of a 19-4 triumph over Oneonta on April 18, 2004. Patrick Schetter went 4-for-6 with a double and four RBIs for the Red Dragons. Matt Michalski and Jack Massa were 3-for-5 with three RBIs each and Tyler Phillips batted 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Hood's Brooks Warrenfeltz and Josh Gall both hit home runs as the Blazers defeated Gettysburg 9-4. Warrenfeltz went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Gall was 2-for-5 and drove in three.
Penn State Behrend defeated Northwestern (Minn.), 7-4. The Lions offense has been heating up over the past couple days and today proved to be no different. Behrend registered 15 hits on the day including five players with multiple hits.
SUNY Maritime settled for a non-conference split as the Privateers took the opener by a 5-1 score before dropping the nightcap by an 11-7 margin to the Monmouth Fighting Scots from the Bob Gladwin Complex in Central Florida. Offensively, Maritime's two catchers had the biggest base knocks in each of the respective games as junior Aaron Schiavoni had a three-run double in the opener to give Maritime a lead it did not relinquish. In the second game, fellow junior Stephen Semier had a grand slam home run during the latter innings.
