Rhodes split games on Friday at the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic. The Lynx fell to Methodist 10-3 in the morning, but turned around and defeated Huntingdon 10-5 later that night. In the opening game of the classic, the Monarchs got off to a hot start and led 4-0 after three innings enroute to the 10-3 win. In the late game, Rhodes starting pitcher Trey Sledge struck out nine Hawks in six innings, in his third appearance in four games as Rhodes evened their record. No. 7 Birmingham-Southern was a victim of another fast start by the Methodist Monarchs but erased a 9-1 deficit with 12 runs in the middle innings and another nine late to win 22-11.
Emory split a doubleheader against Covenanton Lookout Mountain. The Scots won game one, 8-3, while the Eagles salvaged the split in game two, 10-4. In the opener Matt Reitz was perfect for the first three innings and needed some help for his first win of the season in the form of reliever Ross Skipper and the Scots' offense. In the late game, Emory fell behind again but erupted for a six run fifth for their first lead of the afternoon and enough offense to notch the win.

Christopher Newport opened the 2018 season with a doubleheader sweep at Ferrum, using a 10-run 7th inning in the first game to win 11-4 before pulling away for a 9-2 win in the second. With the sweep, the Captains are 2-0 to start the year while improving to 14-4 in season openers under head coach John Harvell.

After falling 2-0 in seven innings in the first game of the doubleheader, Brevard beat William Peace 5-4 on a walk-off hit from freshman outfielder Jadon Wooten. The game entered the bottom of the 9th inning tied at 4, as Dayne Homesly and Tanner Revis were able to record base hits with two outs. In his only hit of the game, Wooten delivered a base hit into shallow center field that was just out of the reach of the center fielder, which brought home Homesly from second base for the game-winning run.
Centre began 2018 on the road against 10th-ranked LaGrange, splitting a doubleheader with the Panthers on Cleaveland Field at Williamson Stadium. The Colonels were buoyed by a big seventh inning in game one's 8-6 victory, but the Panthers, a 2017 NCAA Tournament team, exacted a measure of revenge with a late rally to win game two, 5-4.
Trinity (Texas) opened up the 2018 season with a 5-3 road victory over the University of Houston-Victoria. Trinity won its first game of the year for the first time since the 2015 season, and head coach Tim Scannell is now 16-4 in season openers as he begins his 20th year as the Tiger skipper. John Tucker led the offense with three of Trinity's eight total hits, going 3-4 with a double and a triple, driving in the first run of the game and then scoring the last in the ninth. Rafe Chaumette was 2-5 with a triple and stole two bases, while Parker Cormack, Jake Martin, and Logan Morrison all had extra-base hits.

An eight-run eighth inning rally gave LeTourneau a season-opening come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Willamette at Air Hogs Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas. The season-opening win moves LETU to 1-0 overall and is their first win of the opening weekend Jackie Moore/Rusty Greer Classic in Grand Prairie. Willamette lost to Texas Lutheran 4-3 earlier in the day. In other tournament action, senior righthander Ty Engelhardt tossed a three-hit shutout as Hardin-Simmons won its baseball season opener 9-0 over Hendrix.
A trio of seventh-inning bunts aided Maryville, as the Scots held off a ninth-inning Johnson University rally for a 4-3 win on Scotland Yard. Maryville recorded back-to-back squeeze bunts by Patrick Messinger and Hayden Hollingsworth to score a pair of runs in the three-run inning to hold off the win. MC's bullpen fought off the rally to move to 2-0 on the year.
No. 2 California Lutheran baseball team rallied from a two-run deficit for a victory, with a 7-5 thriller over No. 22 Texas-Dallas at Kino Memorial Stadium. After trailing 5-3 going into the seventh inning, the Violet and Gold scored four runs in the bottom half and were able to take the lead for the first time in the game.
No 15 Texas-Tyler took five walks, was hit by two more pitches and had three hits in a nine-run seventh inning to break open a scoreless game on the way to a 9-3 win at Irwin Field. The Patriots have won the series and will look for the sweep with the finale on Saturday. Jordan Antley led the Patriots by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Ben Romines, Jared Pauley and Tanner Roach each had hits. Romines was 1-for-3 with a two-run double for the only extra base hit for the Patriots.
The Eastern Mennonite Royals won the first game in Friday's doubleheader against NC Wesleyan, drawing a split against the Battling Bishops. EMU went 1-2 in a three-game series with NCWC and will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Buena Vista, Va. to take on Southern Virginia. After starting Thursday's season opener as the catcher, right-hander John Judy took the mound for his first career start and was credited with the win. Judy went 4.2 innings before giving way to Ryan Brewer who earned the save with 2.1 innings of work.
