WORCESTER -- WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon has announced the hiring of Brendan Casey as Head Baseball Coach.

"We are excited that Brendan has joined WPI Athletics as our new head baseball coach", stated Harmon.  "He has enjoyed success as a player and as a coach, including recently working at the highest level in NCAA Division III baseball with student-athletes equally committed to their academics as well as their athletics, striving for excellence in all that they do.  The future looks bright for Brendan's leadership of WPI Baseball."

Casey arrives at WPI after helping the highly successful Tufts University Baseball program since 2016.  He has been involved in all aspects of Jumbo Baseball from recruiting, hitting, pitching, positional work as well as fundraising, alumni relations and community service. For his outstanding efforts, he was recently promoted to associate head coach in 2021-22.  During Casey's time at Tufts, the Jumbos captured NESCAC crowns in 2016, 2017 and 2019 while also advancing to the NCAA championships, including reaching the regional finals in 2016, 2019 and 2021.  Casey has also worked with the New England Ruffnecks since June of 2014 and is a respected coach, instructor and clinician.

"I am honored and excited to be the next Head Baseball Coach at WPI, remarked Casey.  "I would like to thank Dana Harmon, Philip Clay, Cherise Galasso, Chris Bartley and the rest of the hiring committee for entrusting me with the responsibility to lead the program.  "Our goal is to develop a program ready to compete at the highest level while representing the strong values and standards of WPI. I look forward to hitting the ground running with an outstanding core of student-athletes at WPI and provide them with a first-class experience."

Prior to his time at Tufts, Casey spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater Azusa Pacific University. During his time as an assistant coach, the Cougars averaged 32 victories and qualified for the postseason both years. Casey is a 2013 graduate of APU majoring in physical education where he played four years, including captain his senior year. He was instrumental in helping the Cougars capture their conference championship in 2012 and advancing to the NAIA playoffs.

Being a head baseball coach in NCAA Division III is a family affair for the Casey family as Brendan joins his father John (American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Famer and former long-time head coach of Tufts University), brothers Brian (currently at Coast Guard Academy) and Kevin (currently at Johnson & Wales University) into the profession.
