Abington, Pa. – Penn State Abington Director of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation Erin Foley has announced that Joe DiMento will become the new head baseball coach at Abington.  DiMento has served as an assistant coach with the Nittany Lions the past four seasons.

"We are excited to have Joe DiMento as our next baseball coach at Penn State Abington," said Foley.  "Over the last few years Joe has been a major component in the growth and development of our baseball program.  I have no doubt that he'll continue that process and take the team to the next level as they compete for a conference championship."

This past season DiMento served as the team's top assistant as well as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.  The Nittany Lions set a school record with a 33-11 record and led the nation in several categories including, home runs, runs, hits, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, doubles, walks per game and total bases.

"This is the dream, this really is," said DiMento.  "A few years back this was exactly that, just a dream. To be able to finally live that dream with this team and these young men, it means the world to me. We've been able to accomplish a lot as a team since I've been here, but I'll tell you one thing, the job isn't done. Not until we bring a national championship to Penn State Abington!"

During his tenure with Abington, DiMento helped recruit and develop 21 all-conference players and nine all-region players, including the NCAA Division III National Player of the Year, Ryan McCarty.  McCarty went on to sign as an Undrafted Free Agent with the Toronto Blue Jays and spent this past summer on the team's Single-A squad in Dunedin, Fla.

In 2019, DiMento helped guide Abington to its first conference championship as the Nittany Lions won the NEAC title and earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

Prior to joining Abington's staff in 2018, DiMento spent four seasons at his alma mater, Rutgers University-Camden, as an assistant coach working as the Catching Coordinator and Hitting Coach.  While on staff, Rutgers-Camden won its first NJAC Regular Season Title and earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance.

DiMento graduated from Rutgers-Camden in 2014 with a degree in Marketing and Management with a Finance minor.  He was a four-year letterman and a two-time team captain during his playing career.
