Winners brought out the bats on Wednesday, Thursday

Christopher Newport stretched its winning streak to seven straight games on Wednesday afternoon as the Captains stormed past Bridgewater, 11-1, during a non-conference showdown at Captains Park. Against the Eagles, Sam Benedict (pictured) laced three hits, drove in a pair of runs, and scored twice during a well-rounded performance. Not to be outdone, his brother, Jake Benedict, added two hits and three RBI as the freshman siblings helped account for nearly half of Christopher Newport's runs during the victory.

An offensive onslaught with 21 base hits and five home runs gave Castleton its first win of the season, a 17-12 defeat of Guilford. The Spartans (1-1) received another four-hit outing from Tyler McLain while Jackson Cardozo also tallied four base knocks, just a double shy of the cycle. Addison Schaub, Reece de Castro, and Jesus Cardenas each collected a trio of hits as Schaub and Ryan Lawrence knocked in three RBIs apiece. Joseph Voli got his second career win after toeing the rubber in relief, getting in 3.0 innings of work. Brayden Howrigan and Sam Crawford made their Spartan debuts as Stephen Coffey made his tenth career appearance to close it out. Each of the four Castleton hurlers logged a strikeout. De Castro, a fifth-year Spartan, became a member of the program's 100-hit club with a double in the fourth inning. The squad's 21 hits is the best single-game mark in over a decade (24 vs. Plattsburgh State, 4/14/2010), while five homers marks the highest total for Castleton since 2017. Guilford team faced Castleton on Thursday and the tables were turned. The Quakers claimed the win, 15-3, as the game was called after five innings due to rain. Rylan Smith led the Quakers with four RBI. Jackson Marcellus started on the mound and went five innings, allowing three runs on two hits with four strikeouts.

Junior first baseman Tray Owens accounted for five of the runs in No. 3 LaGrange's (3-1) 15-4 rout of Emory (1-2), three via the long ball, in an NCAA Division III baseball game on Wednesday. The Panthers wasted no time as they jumped out ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first and put the game out of reach at 9-0 at the end of four. The big blow in that inning came off the bat of Owens with what Earl Weaver called the best play in baseball – a three-run shot down the left field line. Owens would deliver a 2-for-5 day that included a homerun and five RBIs. On the hill, freshman pitcher Eduardo Peralta threw four innings, recording 10 of those 12 outs by strikeout.

homering twice and driving in six runs, to lead the
Monarchs in their 21-6 rout over Clarks Summit in their
2023 season opener. The Monarchs also helped the honor
of breaking in the brand new turf at the neutral site of Lake
Lehman High School. With the win, the Monarchs start the
season 1-0, while the Defenders fall to 0-2.

Moravian opened the 2023 season with a sweep of Elmira, winning 5-3 and 6-4, in a non-conference doubleheader at Diamond Nation to give first-year Head Coach Douglas Coe his first two career victories. When the Soaring Eagles cut the Blue & Grey lead to 2-1, the Hounds responded with three runs in the bottom of the second frame to extend the advantage to 5-1. Elmira scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings but would not get any closer. It was a closer game in the nightcap but the Greyhounds plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final score of 6-4. Moravian had 16 hits in the doubleheader with Derek Holmes going 3-for-6 with four RBIs, a run and a homer.

La Roche brought in their first wins of the season in a doubleheader matchup against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, winning 8-5 and 11-10. Nathan Stutz showed timely hitting this afternoon, driving in four on three hits to lead the Redhawks past Waynesburg 8-5. Stutz drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the third, and a home run in the fourth. Jamison Rhoades earned the victory on the hill for The Redhawks. The righty lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out three and walking one. The Redhawks took the lead late in the game to earn an 11-10 victory over Waynesburg. The game was tied at nine with La Roche up to bat in the top of the sixth when Kyle Weitzel hit a solo homer.

No. 15 Arcadia opened the 2023 season with a 14-4 win over Ursinus in non-conference play at Skip Wilson Field on Thursday afternoon. The Knights opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second on back-to-back RBI singles from Alex Madera and Emilio Pallante. Arcadia then tacked on four runs in the third, one each in the fifth and sixth, two in the seventh, and four in the eighth. Hunter Curley earned the win with five scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking three while allowing three hits.

Roanoke came from behind in their home opener to win 8-3 over the visiting Greensboro Pride at Salem Memorial Ballpark. A pair of walks and back-to-back hits allowed three Pride runners to score as Greensboro took the lead 3-1 after the top of the second. It remaind this way until the seventh when the Maroons erupted for five runs to erase the Greensboro edge. With two in the eighth, Roanoke finished off the scoring.

Gettysburg scored 12 runs in the second inning to key a 23-4 win over Albright on Thursday. Mark Seibert led the Bullets with a 2-for-2 day with three runs scored and an RBI. Gettysburg had a program record-tying five triples in the game, including two by Jake Pistner. James Weedon struck out eight and allowed just one hit in three innings of work to pick up the victory. In total, the Bullets pitching staff fanned 17 Lions.

St. Thomas (Texas) opened up its three-game series against Belhaven this Thursday night. A great balance of offense and defense propelled the Celts to a 4-3 game-one victory. On the mound for the Celts was Chris Parsons. Parsons went 6.1 innings for St. Thomas and notched seven strike outs. On his sixth strikeout, he tabbed his 100th as a Celt.

It was a record-setting night for Carter Ballsdadt as the senior became Piedmont's all-time career leader in home runs with a blast in the eighth inning of Piedmont's 7-5 win over Washington & Lee. The Lions scored early and often as Thursday's game marked the fifth game of the season where Piedmont scored seven or more runs. Piedmont was out-hit in the contest 13-12, but managed three extra-base hits to the Generals one. Ballstadt broke the career home run record, breaking the previous tie with older brother Brady Ballstadt as Carter now has 16 in his career.

William Peace defeated SUNY New Paltz by a score of
10-3 for the first win of the early season on Thursday.

No. 6 ranked Marietta scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to come from behind and defeat Berry by the score of 6-3 Thursday afternoon in the D3 Showcase. The Pioneers start 2023 with a 1-0 record, while Berry falls to 2-3 on the season. Senior Trent Valentine got the start on the mound and cruised through the first four innings. Valentine worked 4.2 innings and was charged with two runs, one earned, on five hits. He walked three and struck out three. Nick Kumor (1-0) got the win working one shutout inning. Nick Bonnizzio led the Pioneer offense going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two runs batted in. Alex Richter finished with a pair of singles and two RBI, while Ty Davis picked up an RBI on his solo home run.

Sam Angelo homered and drove in three runs as Montclair State pounded 26 hits to top McDaniel 25-3 in the season-opener Thursday. The Red Hawks (1-0) scored three times in the bottom of the second to take the lead and then exploded for eight runs on six hits in the third frame. Montclair State added to their advantage with nine runs on 11 hits in the seventh and the rout was on. "Proud that our guys showed up loose and ready to go, good win. Positive result and looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow!" – Head Coach Dave Lorber.

Brevard (4-3) defeated Northern Vermont-Lyndon (1-2) 10-4 in the first of a three-game series on a wet Thursday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. Brevard hit two home runs in the contest as sophomore first baseman Cale Oehler hit a solo shot followed by a rare inside-the-park home run by sophomore left fielder Lucas Granata. Oehler produced a huge day offensively, ending up just a double away from hitting for the cycle. Sophomore righty Jacob Thompson (1-0) earned the win after a highly effective starting performance, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two and walking three over five innings pitched.

Kean made it six in a row with a 9-5 win over visiting Haverford on day one of the Jack Nagy Classic on Thursday evening. Phil Marcantonio was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored while Steve Petrosh was 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Caleb Rodriguez finished with two hits and an RBI. Nick Nemes (1-0) earned the win after tossing six innings allowing two earned runs and five hits. For the Fords, Jack Wallis was 3-for-4 and Chuck Norton worked three walks in the loss.
