Sheibley wins 100th as Blue Jays split

FORT PIERCE, Fla.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team continued their spring break trip in Florida as they split with Kenyon, 8-12, 15-6, Monday afternoon. Head coach, Adam Sheibley earned his 100th career win in the split.

Game 1 vs. Kenyon: L, 8-12

The first inning was scoreless in game one before Kenyon struck first tallying three runs in the second inning. The Owls added five more in the third to lead, 8-0 over Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays got on the board in the bottom of the third. Garrett Schwartzbeck singled through the left side. Tyler McGonigle then singled to the shortstop, advancing Schwartzbeck. On a fly out to right center, Schwartzbeck advanced again. David Woolley singled to left center to bring home, McGonigle and Schwartzbeck.

In the fourth, Kenyon extended their lead, 10-2 before Etown cut the Owls lead, 10-5 in the bottom of the fourth. Justin Wetzel singled to first base then stole second and third. A sacrfice fly out to center field brought Wetzel across home plate. Ben Watson doubled down the right field line for a RBI before Robbie Bertucio singled up the middle to bring home, Watson. Kenyon added two more runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. Etown scored three more runs in the sixth as they trailed, 8-12. Elizabethtown loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but a Kenyon double play ended the game.

Mason Woolwine went 2-2 with one run scored. Wetzel went 1-3 with one run scored and two stolen bases. The six Elizabethtown pitchers totaled seven strikeouts with Justin Peterson, Quinten Perilli, and Alex Perrin each recording two each.

Game 2 vs. Kenyon: W, 15-6

In game two, Elizabethtown flipped the script and was off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the first inning. Perilli, AJ Bednar, Chance Montgomery, and Schwartzbeck recorded RBI's in the inning. In the bottom of the first, Kenyon picked up two runs as Etown led, 6-2. In the second, Woolley singled down the left field line as Bertucio scored on a throwing error. Montgomery singled to right field to bring home Woolley.

In the sixth, Elizabethtown gained more momentum as they added six more runs which extended their lead to 14-2. Kenyon scored two runs in the third and their final two runs in the fifth. In the sixth, Etown tallied their final run of the game. Woolley recorded his fourth hit of the game as he doubled to left center. On a fly out to right field, Woolley advanced. Bednar singled through the left side to bring in Woolley.

Watson went 3-6 with one run scored, two RBIs and two triples. Woolley went 4-4 with four runs scored, a RBI, and two doubles. Kyle Reader got the win, pitching four innings. Micah Wolf got the save and pitched three innings and a career-high eight strikeouts.

Elizabethtown will enjoy their day off tomorrow before facing Penn St.-Behrend in a single game on March 8 at 11 AM.
