CARY, N.C.—The Hobart College baseball team earned its first win of the season, defeating Dean College 12-1 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex this morning. The Statesmen came up short in their final game of the weekend, dropping a 15-5 decision to William Pace University.

In Game 1, first-year Max Friedlander hurled a complete game three-hitter to tame the Bulldogs. In Game 2, the Pacers pounded out 19 hits and raced out to a 10-0 lead before the Statesmen plated two runs in the top of the sixth. First-year Christian Petry went 2-for-3 at the dish to finish the three-game weekend with a team-leading .500 average.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Dean

Hobart used a two-out rally in the bottom of the second to take the lead on Dean.
First-year Nate Garrett and Petry both drew walks and Presbrey was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Graduate student Michael Whiteherse popped up in the area of the pitcher's mound for what should have been the third out, but the first baseman missed played it allowing two runs to score.
Evan Munuz followed with a single that plated two more runs.
Gallagher doubled in Munuz to give the Statesmen a 5-0 lead.
Petry tacked on an RBI triple in the third inning to make it 6-0.
Dean (0-1) scored its only run in the top of the fourth, but Hobart answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, including a three-run double by Presbrey.
Friedlander allowed only one base runner over the final three innings to secure the victory.
