D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its twelfth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the fourth Team of the Week of the 2023 season.

Games of March 6-12, 2023

C  Justin Fogel, Jr., Penn St.-Abington

Fogel batted 14-for-30 (.467) for the week to go along with four doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored In the team's final game at the RussMatt Invitational, he connected on his second home run of the year in his final at-bat of the game. It marked his 100th career hit and 12th career home run.

1B  Dane Camphausen, Sr., Wooster

Camphausen delivered a massive opening day to the team's spring trip. Camphausen went 6-for-9 (.667) with five of the six hits going for extra bases (three doubles, two homers). He scored six times and had five RBI. Camphausen sported a .727 on-base percentage for the day with two walks in addition to the six base knocks.

2B  Jordan Mathewson, Sr., Buena Vista

Matthewson led the team in hits (12-for-19 - .632), RBI (seven) and runs scored (seven) for the week. He doubled twice and added a triple for his three extra-base hits. He did not commit an error in 17 total chances and helped turn three double plays.

SS  DJ Perron, Sr., Mass.-Dartmouth

Perron helped the Corsairs to a perfect 7-0 record last week, batting a phenomenal .593 (16-for-27) at the plate with a 1.111% slugging percentage and a .625 on-base% as a starter in all seven contests. He scored 10 runs and a team-high 17 RBI. Perron also notched two doubles with a team-best four home runs on the week.

3B  Jared Schmitt, Fr., Colby-Sawyer

Schmitt had a scorching week for the Chargers finishing the week 6-for-8 (.775) with two homers, two doubles, seven runs scored and nine RBIs. Jared also was amazing on the base paths with four stolen bases in four attempts.

OF  Brett Carson, Sr., Marietta

Carson batted .667 (8-for-12) in Marietta's three-game sweep of No. 17 Cortland last week. He hit safely in all three games and had a double and two home runs. He scored six and drove n eight.

OF  Johannes Haakenson, Sr., Concordia Wisconsin

Hakkenson feasted on the week with nine hits and two walks in 14 at bats, He had four extra-base hits, three triples and a home run, to got with seven runs scored and eight RBIs. Haakenson was a perfect three-for-three in stolen bases.

OF  Caleb Shpur, Sr., Endicott

Shpur led Endicott to a 3-0 week by slashing .500/.625/1.600. The senior outfielder compiled five hits, including one triple and two homers, five runs, eight RBI, four walks, and five stolen bases.

DH  Ben Anderson, So., Salisbury

Anderson brought the big lumber in each of the Sea Gulls' four wins for the week, slashing .583/.643/1.333 with five extra-base hits (three double, two home runs), five runs and seven RBIs in 12 at-bats.

SP  Derek Archer, Fr. Westminster (Mo.)

Archer notched his first collegiate win, going nine scoreless innings against Grinnell. He allowed just one hit, walking none, and striking out nine.

SP  Nick Guidas, Jr., Grove City

Guidas threw a nine-inning perfect game Thursday in Grove City's 6-0 win over Illinois College in Davenport, Fla. Guidas struck out a career-high 14 men, fanning eight of the last nine men he faced. Only two balls left in the infield among the 27 outs that the 6-foot-2 lefty recorded.

SP  Brandon Hightower, Sr., Penn St.-Abington

Hightower made two appearances this past week, including his second start of the season against St. John Fisher. Against the Cardinals, Hightower was lights out as he struck out a career-high 12 batters in 7.1 innings of work. He held St. John Fisher to just three hits on the day. Earlier in the week Hightower made a relief appearance in the team?s win over Russell Sage where he pitched a perfect inning.

RP  Carson Collins, Fr., Baldwin Wallace

Collins pitched in his first three collegiate games over the week in Florida. He picked up a win and two saves in 4.2 innings of work. He allowed just two baserunners and struck out four as the Yellow Jackets went 3-0 in his appearances.

RP  Andrew Steinhubel, So., Mass.-Dartmouth

Steinhubel was outstanding for the Corsairs last week, going 2-0 with two saves overall as the team went undefeated over seven games. In 5.0 innings of relief work, he allowed just one hit with no runs, striking out six batters with just one walk surrendered (intentional).
