Cleanthes wins 500th with Rhodes

The Rhodes Lynx swept Belhaven 8-3 and 15-4. Today's victory marks Head Coach Jeff Cleanthes' 500th career managerial win as Rhodes' head coach.

GAME 1

The Rhodes College Lynx took on the Belhaven Blazers in a midweek 7-inning doubleheader at Stauffer Field, taking the first game by a score of 8-3.

After going down 3-0 early, the Lynx began scratching their way back, starting in the second inning, when Gunnar Vachris singled, bringing home 2 runs.

In the 4th, Corbin Kinder singled to score Ben Burkhart to tie the game, then a wild pitch brought in the go-ahead run. After the wild pitch, Quinn Blackman hit a sac fly, scoring Kinder from third.

In the 5th, Gunnar Vachris continued his season-long hot streak, doubling and scoring John McNair. The Lynx scored twice more, coming from Corbin Kinder's 4th homer of the year, and Dante Messina's RBI double.

On the pitching side, Thomas LeMaster opened for the Lynx, going 2 innings, giving up 3. In relief of LeMaster came Mick Arney. Arney pitched a dazzling 5 innings, shutting out the Blazers while only giving up 4 hits and punching out 5. Arney is credited with the win in today's game 1.

GAME 2

The Lynx found themselves in a hole early, down 4-0 until the bottom of the 4th, when Ben Burkhart got the scoring going with a solo shot to right center. After that, the floodgates opened. In the 5th, Malcolm Rohlfing doubled, scoring one. Then, 3 straight singles brought in 3 more runs.

Wood Kimbrough then doubled, scoring 2. Malcolm Rohlfing, batting for the second time in the 5th inning, plated another with an RBI single, bringing the scoring total to 7 in the fifth inning. In the 6th, the Lynx put up another 7-spot.

Gunnar Vachris got the party going with an RBI single, followed by two SAC flies from Corbin Kinder and Ben Wilson, an RBI single from Malcolm Rohlfing, and a bases-clearing triple from Dante Messina, tallying the 15th unanswered run from the Lynx offense.

William May pitched in relief of CJ Carron, who started the game, and went 3 shutout innings, giving up only 3 hits. Jack Meyers came in for the final frame, sealing the win. Across the two games, the Lynx bullpen pitched 9 ⅓ scoreless innings.
