Jenkins Earns Career Win Number 100; Munn Fans Career-High in Sewanee's Extra Inning Victory over Oglethorpe

ATLANTA - A traditional pitcher's duel took place on Friday night from Hermance Stadium between the University of the South and Oglethorpe University. Tied at one going into extra innings, Sewanee had a go-ahead RBI double by Mike Lewishall and a career performance on the mound by Matt Munn to give the Purple and White the 2-1 victory over the Stormy Petrels to open a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Oglethorpe loaded the bases out of the gate, but after a fielder's choice that saw an out at the plate by Hunter Herndon to Owen Andress for the second out, Jadon Fetrow made the catch in center field to keep the game scoreless.

-OU did scratch across a run in the bottom of the fifth. After the Petrels' first two outs were of the strikeout variety, back-to-back hits by the home team, including a two-out triple, made it 1-0.

-Still 1-0 in the eighth, the Purple and White finally got to starter Colin Stewart. After TJ Meyn led off the frame with a hit-by-pitch, Mike Lewishall followed with a double to right center field to even the game at a run apiece.

-In the ninth, Oglethorpe had the winning run at second base with two outs, but Matt Munn was able to get out of the jam with a fly out to force the game into extras.

-In the 10th, a lead-off single by Will Yarbro was cashed in two batters later. Another two-bagger to the right-center field gap by Lewishall gave Sewanee the edge 2-1.

-Nearing 100 pitches through six innings, Munn went back out to toss the bottom of the 10th. The sophomore would mow down the Petrels in order, including punching out two, to pick up the win.

JENKINS PICKS UP WIN NUMBER 100
-In Friday's win, head coach David Jenkins secured his 100th career victory with the Tigers, and he becomes the third coach to eclipse the century mark in wins for the University of the South baseball program, joining all-time leader Scott Baker (166) and Shirley Majors (117).

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-After Luke Bishop tossed three shutout innings to start the game for the Tigers, Matt Munn (5-3) punched out a career-best 14 batters for his first double-digit strikeout performance of his career. Pitching the final seven innings, Mann scattered five hits, allowed one earned run and did not concede a walk.

-Munn, a sophomore from Bellaire, Texas, struck out the most batters in a game since Lee Schurlknight's 13 in 2012. Sewanee's record since 2008 for strikeouts in a game is 15, set by Greg Bartleski.

-At the plate, Mike Lewishall went 3-for-4 with two doubles with two RBI.

-Owen Andress also had a double ahd posted a 2-for-4 evening at the plate.

OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-Jonathan Cruz had a 2-for-5 night with a triple, while Nick Taratino also had a multi-hit game with a double.

-Sam Mills drove in the lone RBI for the Petrels.

-Colin Stewart earned the no-decision, striking out eight batters in 7.1 innings on six hits.
