Shenandoah and Lynchburg split on Sunday

No. 3 Shenandoah split its ODAC doubleheader with No. 7 Lynchburg Sunday, with SU earning a 6-4 game two victory. Shenandoah (31-5, 15-4 ODAC) game back to win the nightcap after Lynchburg (28-5, 16-3) was a 3-2 winner in the 10-inning opener. Lynchburg scored the winning run on a two-out infield single in the 10th to outlast SU in the 3-2 victory in the opener. Two spots in the first, fourth, and eighth innings keyed the 6-4, game two victory for Shenandoah.

Behind a stellar start from Danny Eden and timely home runs from Matt Parks and Lucas Floyd on Sunday afternoon, Penn State Harrisburg wrapped up the weekend with an 8-2 victory over No. 1 Salisbury that halted the Sea Gulls' 14-game win streak. Eden earned the win after allowing just two runs on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings thrown. Parks hit a three-run home run in the second inning, Floyd added a solo shot in the sixth, and Brendan Henn had a three-hit day. Danny Eden worked hard to keep one of the nation's top offenses at bay and the bats backed him up in an 8-2 victory for Penn State Harrisburg (28-7) over No. 1 Salisbury (26-4) on Sunday afternoon. The win was the first-ever for the Lions against a program ranked No. 1 in the nation. Eden struck out the last batter he faced in the top of the seventh and gave way to Joel Sneeringer for a relief effort that included two-plus scoreless innings. Salisbury opened the top of the ninth with a lead-off walk but Sneeringer followed it up with a strikeout, a pop up that was caught in foul territory by Ryan, and a flyout to Henn at second base to end the game.

Elizabethtown now holds sole possession of the Landmark Conference after completing the sweep over No. 10 Catholic. The Blue Jays finished off the series, Sunday winning, 14-2, 10-5. Through four innings the game was scoreless as Etown and Catholic pitchers battled. Greg Zerbe pitched 6.2 innings for his sixth win of the season while striking out three. The Cardinals pitcher, Camden Mounts had a strong showing pitching 5.2 innings while striking out eight. Catholic would keep pace with Elizabethtown through the top of the seventh in the nightcap with the Blue Jays leading by just one at 3-2. The Blue Jays totaled six runs on four hits in the seventh.for a big lead. In the top of the eighth, Catholic loaded the bases and scored two runs on a single and a sacrifice fly. Elizabethtown continued to lead, 10-5. Zach Silfies earned his sixth save of the season as he came in for relief and struck out four in 2.2 innings.

Mount Union swept Wilmington in a home Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday. The Purple Raiders won game one, 8-6, and game two, 14-7. Mount Union (21-11, 9-5 OAC) took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the fourth inning in game one. Senior Zack Mazza then took over with a home run in back-to-back innings, including a grand slam in the sixth. The grand slam was Mazza's second this season and now has 29 career home runs, extending his school record. Wilmington (13-20, 3-11 OAC) threatened in the ninth with three runs, but was not enough. Junior pitcher Jaired Lehman improved to 5-1 on the season, throwing 8.1 innings, giving up five runs and striking out three. The Raiders started game two hot, leading 5-0 after two innings, and did not look back to seal the sweep in dominant fashion. Leading the offensive charge was senior Anthony Kemer with four RBIs, including his fourth home run of the year. Senior Eric Schilling added three RBIs, including a double. First-year pitcher Leo Fornara improved to a team-best 6-1 on the season, throwing six innings and giving up two earned runs (three total) off five hits, and striking out two.

Junior Jack Irby hit a game winning two-run homer in the sixth inning for the Ducks as Stevens Institute of Technology defeated Lycoming 4-3 Sunday afternoon in a MAC Freedom Contest. The home run was the third of the season for Irby. The Ducks (24-11, 14-7) recorded nine hits on the day. They take the series against Lycoming, as the two teams split a doubleheader yesterday in Hoboken. Stevens sits in third place in the MAC Freedom standings with just over one week left in the regular season. Lycoming (11-22, 8-14) played the Ducks well but were unable to put it all together in defeat. The Warriors, who hit a game winning home run in game one of the series, saw the favor returned to them in game three.

No. 5 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace pulled off another Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep taking down Otterbein on the Fishbaugh Field.The Yellow Jackets picked up a 17-9 victory in game 1 and a 3-0 shutout victory in game 2. BW (26-5, 11-2 OAC) was led by senior catcher JT Mazula who went 2-for-4 at the dish with two runs scored and a team leading three runs batted in. Six Yellow Jackets finished the game with two RBIs a piece. Senior All-American infielder Luke Vonderhaar led the way with four runs scored. Senior Academic All-OAC utility Ryan Guggenheim and senior infielder Sean Kolenich each led the team with three hits. BW (28-5, 12-2 OAC) was led behind the arm of sophomore right-handed pitcher Kade Swisher who threw a complete game shutout allowing six hits, two walks while striking out seven. At the plate Mazula led the way picking up two more RBIs.

Lawrence got a strong pitching performance from Preston Anderson and a power surge from Edan Perez on Sunday to pace an 8-3 Midwest Conference win over Monmouth at Whiting Field. Anderson went six innings and allowed only four hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and walked two to even his record on the season at 1-1. Perez went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double, two runs driven in and two runs scored. Eight of Lawrence's nine hitters picked up at least one hit in the contest, and Quinn Berglin also drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings.

Maryville earned a series victory over LaGrange Sunday afternoon, defeating the Panthers 7-2 to take 2-out-of-3 games in the weekend series at Scotland Yard. The Scots offense continues to thrive in the tail end of the season, picking up 12 hits, including two that went for extra bases. MC has now reached 10 or more hits in eight straight games, and 11 of their last 12. Ashton Whiteaker and Colin Dunworth led the way offensively, each picking up three hits in the contest. Whiteaker went 3-for-4 with a double while driving in a team-high three runs. Dunworth went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. The freshman's three knocks mark the first three-hit performance of his career. Hunter Thaxton and Will Hubbell both extended their hitting streaks to five games in the contest. Thaxton went 2-for-5, and Hubbell was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored while doubling his season walk total with three free passes.

North Park scored 11 runs between the fifth and eighth innings to short-game the Carroll Pioneers, 18-8, on Sunday afternoon. The game was tied 8-8 after five innings and both teams traded innings with a crooked number. North Park's pitchers put up zeros while the Viking offense continue to score, run-ruling the Pioneers. Julian Ledezma earned the win with one run allowed. Brandon Leidolph was credited with a save, pitching the final 1.2 inning without a run allowed.

Playing at Capital One Park in Northern Virginia, Christopher Newport earned a weekend sweep over Mary Washington (26-12, 0-3) in Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference action and picked up the program's 30th win of the season.The Captains downed Mary Washington, 5-2, and are now 30-7, reaching the 30-win plateau for just the seventh time in program history. All seven 30-win campaigns for the CNU baseball team have come under head coach John Harvell, who collected his 600th career victory earlier this season. In all six of the previous 30-win seasons, the Captains advanced to NCAA Tournament play including three Division III World Series appearances. This season, the Captains reached 30 wins in just 37 games, tying for the second fastest mark since 2012 when the top-ranked CNU squad started the year 30-6. In 2019, CNU was 30-5 and in 2011 the Captains opened the year with 30 wins in a program record 33 games. The 5-2 victory on Sunday is the eighth straight against the Eagles. CNU never trailed in the game as sophomore Jackson Baird improved to 6-1 on the season with a quality start, tossing 6.0 innings and giving up just two runs. The right-hander struck out three without issuing a walk and scattered nine hits to earn his sixth victory of the season.

It may have been cold out, but the Pointers' bats were hot as No. 23 UW-Stevens Point (20-9, 11-5) clubbed 10 home runs on Sunday to complete the series sweep of visiting UW-Stout (11-13, 4-12). UWSP hit eight home runs in game one to run-rule the Blue Devils, 22-0. The Pointers hit two more in game two to win, 8-1. Nick Paulsen was dealing despite the lengthy periods between pitches watching the UWSP offense rack up runs. He allowed just one hit and tossed a complete game shutout to move to 4-0 on the season. Paulsen fanned a career-best 11 in the win. Kamden Oliver led the offensive charge with three home runs on the day. He drove in seven on the day and totaled five hits. Bradley Comer and Payton Nelson each hit two home runs in game one. Comer scored five times on the day and had four RBI in game one. Nelson scored six times, drew four walks and had three RBI. Jakob Boos homered and drove in three in game one. Matt Baumann hit a three-run pinch-hit home run in game one as well. Trent Van Ess belted a three-run home run in game two.

Millsaps finished Alumni Weekend with a thrilling, 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Oglethorpe at Twenty Field on Sunday. The Stormy Petrels loaded the bases in the seventh, but we're kept at bay. However, the visitors sailed a three-run homer over the left field fence to grab a 5-3 advantage in the top of the eighth. The Majors needing a response tallied three runs of their own in their half of the eighth. Freshman Mason Morgan singled home Page to begin the comeback with the bases loaded. Senior Joshua Laurent followed with a hot shot to third base, scoring freshman pinch runner Johnny Morreale. Millsaps would advance another runner home courtesy of an error created off Hart's bat, regaining a 6-5 lead for the Majors. With two runners on and one out in the ninth, Oglethorpe had an incredible opportunity to tie the game. A relay play from center field to short stop to second base caught a runner in a pickle. Hart, who had moved over to second base defensively, tossed the ball to Morgan who made a tag at the plate. Laiche entered with the bases loaded and two outs. He only needed three pitches to strike out the opponent, securing a 6-5 triumph and series sweep.

Scoring first was not an advantage for the Saint Mary's and Gustavus squads Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals scored first in the opener — and lost — and the Gusties did the same in the second, as the two teams battled to a conference split at Max Molock Field. Saint Mary's scored in its first at-bat, and was unable to induce another player across home plate, as Gustavus scored five unanswered runs to beat the Cardinals 5-1 in Game 1. The Gusties scored twice in their first at-bat in the nightcap, only to have SMU score five on the final seven runs to earn the split with a 5-4 victory.

Emory capped off the series sweep of the WashU Bears on Sunday, winning the finale by an 8-0 margin at Chappell Park in Atlanta. Freshman Josh Zuckerman, sophomore Connor Skertich and senior Mike Golob combined for the shutout as the Eagles improved to 27-11 overall and finish the UAA season at 13-2, setting a conference record for most wins inside league play in UAA history. Zuckerman spun a career-best six innings, limiting the Bears to six singles and a walk as he earned his third win of his rookie campaign. Skertich retired six of the eight batters he faced in two scoreless innings before Golob closed the door in the ninth, striking out two as he worked around two baserunners. It is the third shutout of the year for the Eagles and the second in UAA action after previously blanking Case Western Reserve on March 30th. On the other side of the diamond, it is the first time this season WashU has been held scoreless in a game and the first time they did not score a run since March 10, 2020, a streak spanning 113 ballgames.

In a season which seemed like every ball bounced in favor of their opponents, Heidelberg was the beneficiary of a Wooster throwing error that allowed HU to escape with a 3-2 victory. Trailing by a run with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, Heidelberg pinch hitter Andrew Pokley sent a bouncer to third. Gloved cleanly, the potential game-ending throw across the diamond was low and bounced down the right field line. Orion Kroah (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Kroah threw three full innings of one-hit ball. Corey Brafford (Sv., 1) earned the save, working around a one-out double in the ninth to seal the win. Of Heidelberg's nine hits, eight came from the top third of the lineup.

No. 6 Endicott defeated Colby, 5-1, in non-conference action on Sunday evening at Coombs Field. The Gulls produced a five-run sixth inning and never looked back in the contest. Danny MacDougall opened up the scoring with an RBI single through the left side before TJ Liponis and Caleb Shpur both notched two-run singles later in the frame to cap the scoring. Chris Jenkins took care of the seventh (1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K), while Max Tarlin blanked Colby over the last two frames (0 H, 0 BB, 1 K) for the victory.

No. 21 UW-Oshkosh beat UW-Platteville with scores of 17-2 and 7-4 to sweep the season series on Sunday. With the sweep, the Titans have won all the regular season games against the Pioneers eight times since the 2000 season. Matt Scherrman went three-for-five with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored to lead Oshkosh at the plate. In game two, three Platteville runs scored in the top of the eighth led by Jordan Collins with a 2 RBI single up the middle to make the score 5-4. UWO's Zach Taylor and Mason Kirchberg each sent a run in during the bottom half of the inning and Logan King finished the ninth with a strikeout and forced Hunter Hopkins to groundout into a double play, securing the 7-4 win.

Senior Ethan Iannuzzi had seven hits with a triple, a homer, two walks, two steals, four runs and five RBI as the sixth-ranked Randolph-Macon squad swept an ODAC doubleheader, 13-5 and 19-4, at Eastern Mennonite on Sunday afternoon. Iannuzzi was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI in game one. In game two, he was Iannuzzi went 4 for 7 with two runs and three RBI. He has 19 multi-hit games, tops on the team. Iannuzzi has 12 multiple RBI games, also tops on the team. Junior Drew Ramos pitched six innings with three hits, two unearned runs, two walks and five strikeouts to improve to 5-0 in the opener. Junior Patrick Routsis made his first start of the season and went 5.1 innings with seven hits, one earned run, no walks and three strikeouts to earn the win and raise his record to 3-0 in the nighcap.

No. 14 Denison swept Hiram by scores of 12-0 in seven innings in game one and then 9-1 in game two on the road on Sunday to remain undefeated in 12 North Coast Athletic Conference games so far this season. Charlie Fleming (7-1) limited the Terriers to just two hits while pitching all seven innings to earn his first complete game and first shutout of the season. He struck out seven batters and did not issue a single walk as well. In the nightcap, Kuyper Lashutka led off the third inning with a single to shortstop and was followed immediately by a two-run home run to left field by Colaco to start the scoring in game two.It was not until the eighth inning that Hiram would score their firat run of the day but Denison held a 8-0 lead before the single talley by the Terriers.

William Peace defeated Brevard College by scores of 4-2 and 9-5. In game one, Brevard would go up 1-0 early in the 2nd on a bunt. The Pacers would tie it 1-1 with a single from Ian Turner to score Patrick Rogan in the 4th. In the 5th, doubles from Brett Kemp and Patrick Rogan, as well as a single from Hunter Ward, would give the Pacers a 4-1 lead. The Tornados would cut the lead to 4-2 in the 7th with a double, but the Pacers would shut them down to come away with the win. Brevard would tak an early 2-0 lead in the nightcap. In the 1st inning on a few walks. In the bottom of the 1st, singles from Patrick Rogan and Hunter Ward would give the Pacers a 3-2 lead. A homerun from Sean Roseborough in the 4th would bring hte score to 4-2, but in the 5th a grandslam for the Tornados would give them a 5-4 lead. A single from Brett Kemp in the 6th would tie it 6-6, while doubles from Ian Turner and Sean Roseborough in the 7th would regain a 7-5 lead for the Pacers. Nick Tyler would drive in Roseborough for an 8-5 advantage, while a fielder's choice for Hunter Ward in the 8th would finish the score at 9-5.
