Senior Henry Jamieson stole his 24th base of the season to set a new Bates record and the Bobcats defeated the Southern Maine Huskies 6-5 Wednesday night. It's the first win for Bates (16-12) over USM (12-17) in baseball since 1988, snapping a 31-game losing streak against Hall of Fame skipper Ed Flaherty's squad. The Bobcats scored two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Junior Corbin McAlpine was brilliant out of the bullpen, tossing six and a third innings of one-run ball. Given the lead in the top of the seventh, he shut down USM in the bottom half of the frame and in the eighth inning as well, when he snagged a line drive with a man on first and doubled off the runner to send the game to the ninth with Bates still up 6-4. McAlpine (3-0) got the first batter he faced out in the ninth and the Bobcats brought in sophomore Ian McAslan to close the game out. The Huskies were able to push across a run on a Jason Komulainen RBI single but McAslan secured his first save of the season when he got Arlo Pike to fly out to left to end the game, as the Huskies left two runners stranded.

It was a storybook ending from Carleton Davidson Stadium on Wednesday night. A two out pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning from Rocco Royer extended the Wittenberg win streak to 15 games, as the Tigers took down No. 4 Baldwin Wallace, 7-4. Baldwin Wallace regained the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs, making it a 4-1 ballgame. The Tiger offense came alive in the late stages of the game. Wittenberg tallied six hits and 5 of 6 came after the fifth. The eighth inning Wittenberg comeback would first begin with a leadoff single up the middle from Chase Whisner. With two bases already occupied, Baldwin Wallace elected to intentionally walk Parker Gryskevic to load the bases with two outs. Leading to the dream scenario. Pinch hit, two outs, down one, Royer steps in for his first at-bat of the night and launches his fifth home run over the fence in left, giving Wittenberg their first and final lead of the night, 7-4. This is the second top 25 win for the Tigers this season, having defeated previously ranked No. 4 LaGrange College, 10-9

No. 14 ranked Marietta College shutout Oberlin, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon in nonconference baseball action at Pioneer Park. The Etta Express improves to 26-9 on the season, while Oberlin falls to 9-18 overall. Senior Brett Carson 3-2) had a dominating performance on the mound for the Pioneers. The Yellow Jackets bounced back from a 12-2 loss in game one to defeat the Wolverines 5-3. The victory in game two gives Waynesburg (13-23, 9-11) the unique distinction of being the only team to date to defeat both Grove City (26-8, 13-3) and Washington & Jefferson, which are currently tied for the top spot in the PAC standings. Game one started and ended on sour notes as the Wolverines scored six runs in the first inning and four in the seventh-and-final frame. A big reason for that was the efficient effort put forth by freshman starting pitcher Ethan Ehrhard.
