The third day of the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament was filled with excitement as Franklin and Anderson advanced to Championship Sunday in dramatic fashion. In the first game of the day, No. 2 seed Transylvania faced off against the No. 5 seed Anderson University. With advance or go home the ultimatum, a tense contest ensued, with Anderson advancing to the day’s second game with a 7-6 extra innings win. Transylvania built a 6-0 in the top of the sixth, but Anderson responded with five in the bottom of the frame to make it a one-run game. The Ravens evened it up in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single to force extras. With one out and one runner on second, a ground ball through the right side allowed Anderson to secure the win in the bottom of the tenth. The No. 5 seeded Ravens survived a thrilling contest, to force a deciding game. The Grizzlies were on the board first with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third. Anderson wouldn’t go down quietly after a leadoff double in the top of the fifth sparked a two-run inning to even the score. The Ravens went on to score four runs in the top of the ninth with one out to clinch the contest, 6-5.

Aurora won twice to stave off elimination. In Game 9 of the NACC tournament, the Spartans were 8-2 winners over Edgewood. They then turned to face Benedictine who only needed one win in two games to earn the automatic playoff bid. Aurora forced the extrta game with a 6-2 win over the Eagles and will play Sunday in a winner-take-all game.

Cortland rallied from a 9-1 deficit with four innings remaining to defeat Oswego, 12-10, and Anthony Fusco tossed a complete-game six-hitter in the Red Dragons' 3-1 win over Brockport in a pair of elimination games during Saturday's action at the SUNYAC tournament. With the victories, the nationally 25th-ranked and top-seeded host Red Dragons (32-10) have forced a winner-take-all championship game against second-seeded Brockport (27-16) Sunday at noon. The winner will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
