Kline hits for first cycle for Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team capped off their spring trip with an 12-5 win over Houghton on Saturday morning.

Kade Kline provided the highlight for the Fightin' Engineers as he became the first player in recorded school history to hit for the cycle. Kline roped a double into the left center in the first inning and added a triple in the right center gap in the second. After a fourth inning home run, Kline delivered a two-strike single into right field in the sixth inning to complete the record day. He also added another triple in the eighth inning.

Kline finished the day 5-6 with 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs. He is just the 10th player in school history to record multiple triples in the same game and the 14th player in school history to tally 5 hits in a game.

Peter Rogers also provided a great day at the plate as he became the 32nd player in Rose-Hulman history to record multiple home runs in the same game.

The Fightin' Engineers opened the scoring in the first on a sacrifice fly from Connor O'Connell to score Kline.

After the Highlanders tied the game in the second, Rose-Hulman added four runs with an RBI triple from Kline, an RBI single from O'Connell, and an RBI walk for Tyler Otroszko.

The Fightin' Engineers continued their rally with three runs in the third on the first home run of the day for Rogers. They also added three in the fourth with a pair of home runs from Rogers and Kline.

Houghton would tack on three more runs late, but Rose-Hulman would hold on with the 12-5 victory.

On the mound, Alec Lewandowski earned the start and went four innings with 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.

Zacheus Carr, Jackson Summers, and Schuyler Wilcox each added a shutout inning in relief.
