MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team earned a statement victory on Saturday in game one of the Augustana Invitational, defeating the visiting Buena Vista Beavers in eight innings by a score of 14-4.

Alec McGinnis hit for the cycle in the win and helped jump-start a three-run opening frame for the Vikings, bringing in the first tally on an RBI double that brought in Cole Green. Alex Simon followed with a run-scoring single to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead before Ethan Sosnowski's RBI fielder's choice made it a 3-1 game after one inning of action.

The Vikings added three more in the bottom half of the second, sparked again by a McGinnis home run that brought in two runs. Grant Biggins brought in the third run of the inning with another run-scoring double to move Augie's cushion to five. The Vikings added another in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Simon after McGinnis tripled to make it a 7-1 lead.

A three-run home run from the Beavers cut the differential in half in the fifth. After a scoreless sixth both ways, Augustana earned another multi-score inning in the seventh, this time seeing a two-out, two-run single from Michael Aragon. The Vikings continued to pour it on in the eighth, scoring five times to end the game by run rule. Colton Davis brought in a pair of runs with his single before Aragon walked off the game with a two-RBI double.

Augie out-hit Buena Vista 16-7 in the win, led by McGinnis' cycle and Biggins' three-hit effort. Four other secured mulit-hit games, with Aragon notching a team-best four RBI. Adam Bendoraitis earned the win on the mound, while Anthony Sus earned the save.

With the win, Augustana improves to 9-3 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow vs. Dominican.
