Hawley cycles as Hawks fly over Ospreys

The Roger Williams University baseball team defeated Stockton on Sunday evening at Lake Myrtle Park, 15-7, in a non-conference contest during the team's Spring Break Trip.

Conor Quinlan (Taunton, Mass.) picked up his first win as a member of the Hawks, allowing seven hits and five earned runs, with three walks and three strikeouts. Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) hit for the cycle with a 4-for-4 outing with three RBIs and coming across to score three times. Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) went 3-for-4 at the dish, with a grand slam, with five RBIs in the contest.

In the top of the first inning, Stockton opened up the contest by loading the bases, before a walk brought in a run. With the bases still loaded and a pair of outs, Stockton saw Austin Beard hit a ball into right field, bringing in two more, before a ground out ended the top of the inning.

In the bottom half, the Hawks were quick to responded, with Hawley hitting a leadoff double to right center, being followed by Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.) knocking a ball into right field to bring him in. A pair of walks by London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) and Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) loaded the bases, before Nolan Niziol (Sparta, N.J.) drew a walk to bring in the second run of the contest for Roger Williams. With two outs in the inning and the bases still loaded, Sheehan game up and smacked a ball over the left field wall for a grand slam, putting the Hawks up 6-3 at the end of the first.

After holding the Ospreys scoreless in the top half of the second, Roger Williams added another run in the bottom of inning. Hawley hit a leadoff triple for the Hawks and was later brought in by Camelo who flied out to right field, but the ball was deep enough to bring in Hawley, taking a four-run lead.

Stockton earned a run back in the third with Max Kaplan hitting a rocket to third base for a hit., bringing in Tony Gatti. Roger Williams would add a pair of runs in the bottom half of the third with Hawley hitting a two-run shot over the right field wall, taking a 9-4 lead.

Stockton again cut into the lead in the top of the fifth when Gatti came across to score onn a grounder to second base. In the sixth inning the Hawks added two more runs with Ty Cali hitting a double to right field to bring in Sheehan from second, and Morin later hitting a sacrifice fly to bring in Cali later in the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks tacked on another three runs with Hawley htting a sacrifice fly to left field, and Camelo singling to right center bringing in a pair of runs, taking a commanding 14-5 lead.

Stockton would add a run in the eighth and ninth, with the Hawks scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth to help seal the contest.

Roger Williams (4-0, 0-0 CCC) will have a day off before meeting with Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 12:15 pm at Northeast Regional Park.
