Roger Williams adds two on Monday

Freshman Jack Holley and junior Dale Ostermann combined for a four-hit shutout as Vermont State University Lyndon picked up a 5-0 victory over Thomas College in the finale of their three-game North Atlantic Conference series. Thomas had used an eight run fourth inning to take the first game of the Monday doubleheader played at Colby College, 11-4. With the split the Hornets moved to 2-14 overall and 1-2 in NAC play. Thomas ended the day at 6-10 on the season and 2-1 in conference.

Roger Williams came out on top in both games of their Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Gordon, defeating the Fighting Scots 7-2 in game one and 5-3 in game two. Louie Mosca earned the win in game one going 4.0 innings with two hits and a pair of walks, with JT Gunzy coming into the game in relief to close out the contest. Roger Williams dominated the game with a five-run surge in the second inning. In game two, Lucas Lariviere earned the win, throwing 4.0 innings with one earned run allowed striking out three. MarkAnthony Glickman picked up the save, pitching 0.2 innings in the bottom of the seventh. In game two, Gordon took an early lead in the first inning when a throwing error allowed the first run to come in. However, Roger Williams responded in the top half of the third inning, capitalizing on errors by Gordon's defense to score three runs. Gordon narrowed the gap in the third inning but Roger Williams extended their lead to 4-2 in the fourth. Gordon fought back in the bottom of the seventh with a run but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

UW-Oshkosh won the first game, 6-3, over UW-Whitewater on Monday at Prucha Field and fell in the second, 12-2, finishing the season series with a win over its conference rival. The Titans (11-9, 5-3 WIAC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Warhawks (17-4, 7-1 WIAC) scored three late runs in game one while Whitewater won 12-2 over Oshkosh in game two. In the opener LJ Waco tossed 7.0 innings of scoreless work to open the day. He improved his record to 4-0 with eight strikeouts, allowing just two hits and three walks. Im game two, UW-Whitewater scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead. After the second through fourth innings went scoreless, Jake Surane homered to right center to put Oshkosh on the board, but the Warhawks added three more runs for a 10-1 lead by the end of the sixth. The Warhawks closed out the game and series on an RBI single and an RBI double for the 10-run rule.

A blast and then a bloop with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning rallied Cornell's baseball team to a 6-5 walk-off victory over Midwest Conference in-state rival Grinnell Monday night at Ash Park Field. With the Rams trailing by a run and down to their final out, Sean Alvarez came through in the clutch with a towering solo home run to right field that knotted the score at 5-5. It was the third hit of the night and fifth long ball of the season for Alvarez, who reached base safely in his 20th consecutive game. Cornell's rally continued when Ryan Skala reached on a Grinnell error and advanced to second on a single by Cade Parks, bringing No. 5 hitter Esteban Perez to the plate. Perez lofted an 0-2 pitch into shallow right-center field untouched and pinch runner Jake Mitarontonda came around with the winning run. Sophomore right-hander Cameron Anderson gave the Rams an outstanding start on the mound, striking out nine Pioneers over seven scoreless innings. He left with Cornell ahead 4-0. Both teams finished with 12 hits apiece. Seth Beals and Parks both went 2-for-5 for the Rams. Alvarez accounted for Cornell's two extra-base hits.

Kean University improved to 15-11 with a 19-2 non-conference victory over Gwynedd Mercy University on Monday evening. The Griffins (7-15) jumped out on top first with a single run in the first inning without a hit. Kean responded in the same inning and took the lead for good with a five spot. The Cougars balanced the scoring adding two more in the second, four in the fourth and eight in the eighth. In total 20 Cougars saw action in the contest. Kyle Adorno and Dan Reistle each were 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Adorno added two RBI while Reistle had a team-high four RBI. Rookie Nick Sellari was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI while teammate JT Abrusci was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Dominic Masino rounded out the multi-hit day performances with a 2-for-5 day and two runs scored and two RBI. Connor Ramsey earned his first collegiate win tossing five innings allowing two hits and no earned runs. He struck out six and walked three.

Marymount took the quick trip down I-95 on Monday afternoon to take on the Eagles of Mary Washington in a rescheduled affair, taking them down in a tight matchup by a final score of 8-6. The Saints push their record to 21-5 on the season, still remaining 8-1 in conference play. The Saints put up a big inning in the top of the sixth to give Marymount a 6-1 lead. Mary Washington tacked on four runs in the bottom of the eighth to gain momentum but Quincy Via hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to give the Saints a two-run cushion heading into the bottom of the ninth. Owen Mead struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth to secure the win and pick up his third save of the season.

No. 24 Kalamazoo College took the first game of the MIAA series against Hope 15-3 in eight innings on Monday. Kalamazoo held a 6-0 lead after three and a half innings with a run in the first, two in the third, and three in the fourth. The Flying Dutchmen responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth innings, one of which was unearned due to an error by the Hornets. Hope added one more run in the fifth to cut the K lead to 6-3. Harrison Poeszat got the three runs back on a three-run home run in the sixth inning. The Hornets scored the final six runs in the eighth inning. Logan Lockhart made the start and allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit, a walk, and a defensive error with three strikeouts in three innings. Blake Parpart (1-0) earned the win after relieving Lockhart in the fourth and not being charged a run.

Utica University completed its series sweep of Alfred University with a 16-0 win in seven innings from Houghton University's baseball field on Monday. Jack Krug hurled his second-straight complete game, this time doing so in shutout fashion. The junior limited the Saxons to just two hits and three walks while striking out a career high 14 batters. Krug was efficient throughout the mid-afternoon contest with 100 pitches thrown over 26 batters faced. At the plate, Jacob Scalise went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs driven in and a run scored. Josh Duval (2-4, 2BB, RBI, R, SB), Jack Scanlon (2-5, 3B, BB, 2R), Joe Crossley (2-4, 2RBI, 2R) and Antonio Martinez (2-2, 2BB, 3RBI, 3R) all had multi-hit games as well.

Saint Vincent used a pair of stellar pitching performances and a balanced offense to earn a home sweep over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany College. In game one, the Bearcats rode a 9-run second inning and a complete game effort on the mound by Sean McAleer to a 13-3 win, before the nightcap saw Michael Klingensmith pitch a complete game gem in SVC's 5-0 shutout. In the opener, the Bearcat offense did all of its damage over two innings in the 10-run win, scoring nine times in the second inning and four times in the seventh to enforce the mercy rule. McAleer worked all seven innings and allowed three runs, scattering six hits and striking out six. The hundreds of fans who crowded around Bearcat Ballfield for game two to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse were treated to a fantastic pitcher's duel between the Bearcats' Klingensmith and Bethany's Logan Bennett. Klingensmith authored his second career complete game shutout, scattering seven hits and striking out eight batters in the win.

Just two days removed from splitting its doubleheader with North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan Univeristy brought the Cardinals to Horenberger Field for the third and final game of the series. The Titans held off the Cardinals, 4-2, as IWU moves to 15-9 and 5-3 in CCIW play while NCC falls to 8-13, 3-3 CCIW. NCC battled back within two in the top of the eighth but the Titans' defense held off the Cardinals through the ninth inning to win their fifth conference game this season. Louis Perona, Justin Gadomski, and Jophn Phillip Ferraro each had two hits a piece with Ferraro notching one RBI on the day. Sophomore Cole Shamhart was good for seven innings on the mound, striking out seven batters and allowing six hits. Junior Brady Hartman and junior Luke Schwab each pitched one inning. Schwab faced only three batters and struck out two.

Husson University earned a doubleheader sweep of Lesley University on Monday afternoon with both victories coming in come-from-behind fashion. Senior Jackson Curtis hit a walk-off grand slam to capture an 8-7 win for Husson in game one, while freshman Matt Holmes turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 lead when he blasted a two-run home run to right-center field, as the Eagles came away with a 5-3 win in the series finale. Sophomore Cam Rendell got the start on the hill and hurled 4.2 innings of two-hit baseball, allowing just one run (0 earned). Senior Ryan Penney settled things down for the Husson pitching staff, as he posted two shutout innings and came away with his first win of the season. Husson rode the strong pitching of Allen Wheaton to get back into game two, as Wheaton threw 4.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out five batters and earning his first win of his career in just his fourth appearance in a Husson uniform.

Houghton Highlanders bounced back from Sunday's loss to the Keuka Wolves with a pair of victories, taking the first game, 8-4 in 11 innings, before hanging on in the nightcap, 6-4. Houghton scored four runs in the top of the 11th inning to pull out a crucial win over the Wolves. In the top of the 11th, the Highlanders loaded the bases with nobody out. After two consecutive Houghton strikeouts, it looked like the Wolves might get out of the jam. But an infield single by Dylan Boprey gave Houghton the lead, Ty Kenney followed with an RBI hit-by-pitch, and Jeremey Wilcox laced a two-RBI single to centerfield. Kip Bertram tossed six strong innings, scattering five hits, while walking only two batters and striking out four to earn his second win of the season. Bertram would receive all of the offensive support he would need in the first three innings. In the first, Lucyszyn and VanCheri ripped back-to-back base hits before Ian Slate crushed a two-RBI double to left. The Highlanders would add another unearned run to go up, 3-0.

UW-Stevens Point (12-4, 4-0) belted two home runs in each game of a doubleheader sweep of UW-Eau Claire (5-15, 0-8) to finish off the series sweep. UWSP took game one by an 8-7 final before taking game two in run-rule fashion, 12-2. Bradley Comer hit a solo home run in each game, two of his five hits on the day. He scored five runs and drove in three while stealing a base in each game. Jakob Boos made his return to the starting lineup and had a hit in each game. IN game two, he hit his first home run of the season, a grand slam that put the Pointers ahead for good. Mason Fink hit his first career home run in game one, a three-run shot. Trent Van Ess and Logan Homolka hit safely in both games. Homolka had four RBI on the day and Van Ess drove in two.

Misericordia University finished a series sweep of Lebanon Valley with a 9-3 win on the road, Monday. Connor Maryniak struck out six over 5.1 innings to earn the win and helped his own cause with a solo homer as the Cougars won their 10th straight game to improve to 17-7 overall and 9-1 in the MAC Freedom. Brock Bollinger added a solo homer and Joe Comins had two hits. MU added three insurance runs in the eighth to provide the final margin. Brock Bollinger and Maryniak hit back-to-back homers to start the eighth inning to give the Cougars an 8-3 lead. Comins singled through the right side and later scored on Owen Cordner's two-out double down the left field line. Matt Lanzendorfer struck out three over the final 2.2 innings.
