No. 4 Salisbury Baseball scoots past York (Pa.), 8-4; Brohawn wins 300th game

SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team delivered head coach Troy Brohawn his 300th career win with an 8-4 triumph over the York (Pa.) Spartans on Thursday afternoon at Donnie Williams Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sea Gulls broke the ice in the bottom of the second inning. Trent Waire got aboard with a one-out single, then two batters later Andrew Kell banged an RBI double off the wall in left center to put SU up 1-0.
  • The Spartans surged ahead with a smattering of two-out runs in the fifth. With men on the corners, Robby Elzinga hit a grounder that kicked off the shortstop's glove, allowing the tying run to score on the error. Elzinga then stole second and Lucas Prendergast scored the go-ahead tally as the throw to second deflected into the outfield for another error. Michael Tinneny followed with a two-run home run to right to give YCP a 4-1 advantage.
  • Salisbury got all four of those runs back in the home fifth. Kell led off with a walk and Kyle Brex doubled to put men on second and third, then each man scored on back-to-back RBI groundouts by Tim Petrucelli and Danny Sheeler to get it within 4-3.
  • Zach Geesaman restarted the rally with a two-out double, then Roman March brought him home with an RBI single to tie the game. March moved to second on the throw home and in turn scored the go-ahead run on an RBI knock by Adam Tommer to make it 5-4 SU.
  • The Sea Gulls tacked on another in the sixth on a two-out rally as Petrucelli walked, Sheeler singled, and Geesaman dropped a base hit into left to plate Petrucelli and get it to 6-4.
  • In the eighth, Geesaman was plunked with two outs, and Joey Bowers followed with an RBI triple to left. Bowers in turn came home on a wild pitch to give the game its final 8-4 margin.
