Trinity takes two from Hendrix in doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. (Feb. 26) -- Trinity University held Hendrix College to just four hits for a 10-2 win in Saturday's opener and the Warriors stranded eight runners in an 8-5 loss in the night cap at the Trinity Baseball Field.

Junior right-hander Ben Klimesh pitched a complete game victory in the first game. He scattered four hits over 7.0 innings and struck out six batters.

Junior right-hander Teddy Smoyer was pinned with his second loss of the year after allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs in 7.0 innings. Smoyer struck out seven batters and walked none.

Trinity plated three runs on five hits in its first at bat of the day. Smoyer held the Tigers scoreless over the next two innings, but then gave up one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.

The Warriors scored one run in the second and third innings. First year Thomas Weber led off the second with a single through the left side and eventually crossed home on a grounder up the middle. Junior Aaron Bowen was hit by a pitch in the third and eventually scored on an error at third base.

Junior Nick Pappas was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and four RBI in the first game. Senior Kyle Felix was 3-for-3 at the plate with three doubles and three runs scored.

The Warriors exploded for 13 hits in the second game, however, Hendrix went just 3-for-15 at the plate in RBI opportunities.

Hendrix took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on first year Collin Radack's RBI double and senior Jeff Forgerson's RBI single.

Trinity responded with five runs in the bottom half of the third to gain a lead it would not relinquish. Sophomore Johnathan Hall highlighted the inning with a three-run double and senior Dominick Robusto tagged a two-run double. Trinity added two runs in its next at bat to reach the final mark.

Hendrix scored one run on two hits in the fifth and sixth, before rallying for its final run in the ninth frame.

Radack was 4-for-4 in the second game and first year Jacob Perschke added a 3-of-4 performance. First year left-hander Nick Richardson started on the hill for Hendrix and suffered his first loss of the year.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game set on Sunday with a nine-inning contest at 1 p.m. CST.
