Rensselaer Takes Down UMass Dartmouth, 12-3

LEESBURG, Fla. - Junior Dan Duval (Middleton, MA / Masconomet) allowed just two hits in seven innings and freshman Andrew Kalish (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) went 5 for 5 to lead the Rensselaer baseball team to a 12-3 victory over UMass Dartmouth.  RPI, which had 18 hits, improves to 5-3, while the Corsairs are also now 5-3.

Duval picked up his second win of the Spring Break trip by giving up just one earned run with four walks, while striking out seven.  Two relievers finished the game by pitching in the eighth and ninth innings.

Offensively, the Engineers plated 12 runs a day after scoring 25 on 30 hits the game prior.  Leading the way again was Kalish who went 5 for 5 with a double, three runs scored and a pair of runs batted in. Sophomore Charles Erickson (Mansfield, MA / Mansfield hit a long 3-run home run in the ninth inning to go with an RBIi single in the first and a sac fly to centerfield in the third.  He finished with five RBI.

Three others contributed three hits including Johnny Rio (Maplewood, NJ / Columbia), who was 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI, Tanner Boucher (Keene, NH / Keene), who was also 3 for 5 with a pair of runs, and Art Levenson (San Diego, CA / University City), who had three hits in four at bats.  He had a triple, two runs and two RBI.
