MADISON, N.J. (March 17, 2011) - In the home opener at Doc Young Field, the Rangers were able to defeat John Jay College, 10-3 this afternoon for their fifth victory of the year. Drew (5-5 ) is back at the .500 mark for the first time since the second game of the season.

The Rangers got solid pitching efforts from all four of its pitchers who surrendered only two earned runs on the day. Starter Ken Myers (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) pitched into the fifth inning allowing two runs to score and struck out three batters in the process. Cody Cummings (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) who was credited with the win, allowed only one hit over 2.1 innings of work for his first career victory. Ben Lynch (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and Steve Rosone (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) both came on to pitch scoreless innings of relief.

The John Jay pitching staff would not have as much success as they allowed 10 runs on 12 hits and walked a total of seven batters. The Rangers got on the scoreboard after senior Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) led off the second inning with a double to left center. He would later score on a Steve DeBonis (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) sacrifice fly to left, to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.

Murray would be in the middle of another rally in the next inning as he delivered a bases loaded single to score the third run of the game. The Rangers would push another run across the plate when Chris DelMaestro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), on a ground ball double, make the score 3-0 after three turns at bat.

The Bloodhounds would get two runs back in the bottom of the fifth forcing Myers out of the game. A solid effort by the Ranger bullpen and six runs over the next two innings would ensure the Rangers third win in six days. Debonis, freshman Benny Lyman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic) each had RBI base hits in the six-run outburst over the sixth and seventh innings. The trio each finished the afternoon with two RBIs to power the Ranger offense.

Drew will open up their Landmark Conference schedule when they travel down to Catholic University for a three-game set. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and finish with game three on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
