The Oglethorpe University baseball team shocked No. 3 Wisconsin Stevens-Point on Saturday morning in Winterhaven, Fla., 5-3. The Pointers, playing in their first game of the season, watched sophomore Cory Leff launch a game-winning two-run bomb in the bottom of the 7th to lift the Stormy Petrels to their fifth straight win.

Wisconsin Stevens-Point received three first place votes and a total of 544 points to secure the No. 3 ranking in the nation in this week's D3baseball.com Top 25. It was Oglethorpe, however, that prevailed on this sunny afternoon as freshman David Langhan pitched a perfect 7th and 8th innings to pick up the win while senior Matt Cornwell nailed it down with a save in the 9th.

The Stormy Petrels have now ripped off five straight victories to surge over the.500 mark for the first time this season at 8-7 overall. The victory over a ranked foe is the first for the Oglethorpe program since they knocked off No. 2 Emory 5-4 on April 1, 2004.

Oglethorpe is back in action tomorrow morning when they wrap up their spring break circuit in Florida against Washington and Jefferson.
