WASHINGTON – CUA completed a three game sweep of Drew with an 8-2 win over the Rangers on Sunday afternoon at Talbot Field.  The Cardinals scored in each of the first four innings and five CUA pitchers combined to hold Drew (5-8) to just the two runs.  With the win the Cardinals improve to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in the Landmark Conference.

CUA went ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Dan Sullivan drew a one out walk and LJ Travaglia followed with a single to put runners on the corners.  Dave Grear then drove home Sullivan with a sac fly to make it 1-0.

Later, Travaglia stole second and he came around on a Marc Hanna single to put the Cardinals in front by two.

In the second inning Sullivan drove in Tim Mierzwa with a sacrifice fly and the Cardinals went up by three runs.

The lead reached seven when CUA pushed four more runs across in the third inning.  Grear led off with a single and advanced to third on a Drew error to put runners at second and third. With two outs Mark Kalokitis doubled in a pair of Cardinals and the score was 5-0.

Matt Grieb's single brought home Kalokitis and Mierzwa came across on a wild pitch to give CUA a comfortable lead after three.

A Dimitri Deoudes groundout in the fourth plated CUA's eighth run and the pitching staff took it from there.

Drew was able to push across single runs in the fifth and seventh but it was not enough as the Cardinals completed the weekend sweep.

Grieb and Hanna finished with two hits apiece for CUA, while Kalokitis had a team-high two runs batted in. 

Robin Mowatt got the start for the Cardinals and earned his third win of the season with six innings of one-run ball.  Thomas Travaglia, Brian Cahill, Alec Fenstermacher and Jack Mahoney combined to throw the final three innings and preserved the Cardinals lead.

Pat Rock got the start for the Rangers and surrendered seven runs in three innings.

CUA will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when the Cardinals play host to Christopher Newport at Talbot Field.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
