St. Mary's City, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland (15-11, 8-7 CAC) and No. 22 University of Mary Washington (16-7, 6-6 CAC) needed seven extra innings to decide Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader as the Seahawks posted a 4-3 victory in 14 innings to claim the first game before Mary Washington rebounded with a 10-2 win in the allotted seven innings to capture the nightcap.

Sophomore shortstop Corey Napier (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) paced the Seahawks at the plate with four hits, including a triple, while seniors Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) and Matt Baden (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) each connected on three hits with Baden picking up two doubles and scoring twice.

Sophomore right fielder Mike Schmidt (Burtonsville, Md./Blake) cracked the game-winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the 14th inning as Schmidt singled to centerfield to score first-year Ben Trebach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase).  Trebach was pinch running for senior catcher Brad Shepherd (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills), who had started the inning with a single down the leftfield line.

St. Mary's had opened up the first game with a 3-0 lead in the first inning of play as the Seahawks capitalized on two Eagle errors and junior third baseman Keith Johnson's (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) RBI triple.

Mary Washington cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth inning, scoring two on three hits, before forcing extra innings with a run in the seventh to tie up the game.

First-year LHP Sam Coe (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) recorded his first career win as Coe (1-0) threw 3.0 innings of relief, giving up just two hits to 11 batters faced.

Mary Washington overcame a 2-0 setback with a nine-run explosion in the sixth inning of the nightcap, generating plenty of run support for sophomore starter Michael Straub (Falls Church, Va./George Mason).  Straub (2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts and only two walks.

St. Mary's took a 2-0 lead in the third inning following an RBI double by Baden and then Baden scoring on a UMW error before the Eagles cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth.

Four different Seahawks notched hits in the nightcap while sophomore RHP Carlos Cruz (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) suffered the loss on the mound to drop to 2-3 on the season.

St. Mary's will return to action this Wednesday, March 30 as the Seahawks travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet University in a non-conference doubleheader at 2:00 pm.
