AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall scattered 16 hits to score 12 runs in a 12-0 shutout over Vassar Friday afternoon at the Russ Matt Invitational. The Diplomats improved to 7-6 on season while Vassar fell to 4-2.
Matt Valente pitched a gem on mound for the Diplomats. Valente allowed just four hits with one walk in six innings of work. He picked up his first victory of the season and improved to 1-1.
Matt Will and Blue Wells led F&M from plate. Will went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Wells finished 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
F&M's most productive inning was the fourth, when the Diplomats plated four runs on four hits and one Vassar error. F&M scored one run in the first and fifth innings, and two in the second, sixth and seventh.
The Diplomats will open up at home on Sunday with a double-header against Susquehanna. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
