Trinity Baseball Takes Two From Colby To Complete Series Sweep

Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore 3B Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) went 5-for-9 with two doubles, three runs, and seven RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 13/15-2/6 doubleheader sweep against the visiting Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division action this afternoon.   Trinity improves to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the NESCAC East, completing a three-game sweep of the Mules after a 19-8 win on Saturday.  Colby drops to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in the division, and sees its losing streak against the Bantams extend to 16 games.

Trinity scored 28 runs in 16 innings on 18 hits, taking advantage of nine Colby errors and 21 Colby walks in the twinbill.  The Bantams scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings to lead, 13-0, after four frames in the first game, and broke a 1-1 tie after the first inning of game two with five runs in the bottom of the second stanza highlighted by a two-run single by Rogers.  Colby had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior tri-captain OF Richard Newton (Arlington, Mass.) led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and outraced a pitch to the plate to steal home.  Trinity tied it immediately on a leadoff walk by sophomore OF Alex Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) who went on to score an unearned run.

Trinity freshman RHP Ryan Carr (Cos Cob, Conn.) allowed four hits and two runs with four strikeouts in six innings to earn the win in the first game, while junior righty Edward Donovan (Milton, Mass.) took the win on the hill with 3.1 innings of relief in the nightcap.  Bantam junior Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) had three RBi in the opener, and was 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and a homer in the second game.
