TACOMA, Wash. – A seventh-inning rally for short for Pacific Friday as Puget Sound kept the offense to a minimum in a 3-2 loss to the Loggers in Northwest Conference baseball action art West Field.

The Boxers (21-14-2, 12-7 NWC) had managed just one hit over the first six innings before breaking through for three hits in the seventh, scoring their lone runs on a RBI single by Chad Fahey (Jr., Keizer, Ore.) and a double steal attempt that allowed Mike Nagamine (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) home.

The contest proved to be a true pitcher's duel with strong efforts from both starters. Puget Sound's Nathan Aguilar allowed the two runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts to earn his second win of the season. Luke Englert earned the save for the Loggers (14-15, 14-8 NWC).

Rob Dittrick (So., Mililani, Hawaii) fell short in his bid to become the second nine-game winner in school history, allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in his fifth complete game of the season. Dittrick did set a new Pacific single season record for innings pitched at 87.2, surpassing the 81 innings thrown by Ron Keil in 1970.

The Loggers tallied all three of their runs in the first inning. The first three batters reached base before Jeff Walton delivered a one-out single through the left side to bring home Dakota Resnik. Two batters later, Craig Driver hammed a two-run double to center field that opened up the 3-0 lead.

Pacific advanced runners to third in three of the first four innings, but could not score. The Boxers then scored their two runs in a two-out seventh inning rally. Nate Rasmussen (Jr., Sandy, Utah) started it with a single to left field and Nagamine followed with a single through the left side. The pair of hits knocked Aguiar out of the game, and Fahey greeted Englert with a single up the middle that scored Rasmussen. Nagamine then scored on an attempted double steal that saw Fahey put out at second base.

Four different batters had the four hits for the Boxers. Nick Cherniske went 2 for 3 to lead Puget Sound, while Driver went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in. Kainoa Correa also finished 2 for 4.

Pacific will conclude the 2011 season on Saturday as they conclude the series with Puget Sound with a doubleheader that begins at noon.
