Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams rebounded from an 11-2 loss in the first game to score three runs in the bottom eighth of the nightcap to gain a 4-1 win in game two and a split of a doubleheader against the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in the 2011 season finale for both teams this afternoon.  Trinity finishes the year at 21-15, while Wesleyan closes out at 18-19. 

Five Bantam hurlers combined to allow just one earned run in innings of the Trinity win, including freshman righty Peter Burrows (Floral Park, N.Y.) who allowed the run in the top of the eighth on three walks and hit batsman but recovered with a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the win.  The Bantams scored once on an RBI single by junior Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) to account for the only runs off Wesleyan starter Brett Yarusi (Belmar, N.J.) in his six innings of work.  In the bottom of the eighth frame, Trinity sophomore 3B Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) walked with one out, stole second base with two away, and scored the game-winning run on a single by junior OF David Casanova (Bristol, Conn.) and a Cardinal error.  The Bantams tacked on a pair of insurance runs thanks to an RBI double by junior C Luke Auger (Avon, Conn.) and an RBI single by sophomore SS Stephen Howard (Cheshire, Conn.).

Wesleyan junior RHP Mike Barsotti (Philadelphia, Pa.) tossed a seven-inning, five-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks in the first game.  The Cardinals jumped on Trinity for five runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double by sophomore Chris Bonti (Tampa, Fla.).  Trinity got two back on a run-scoring single by Mortimer and a sacrifice fly by sophomore IF Bryan Ginsberg (Westwood, Mass.) in the bottom of the first frame, but got past first base just once the rest of the way.
