Union, N.J. (2/26/12) – The Kean University baseball team suffered their first loss of the season as the College of Mt. St. Vincent edged the Cougars, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in a rescheduled matchup.

The Dolphins (1-0) pushed across the game's only run in their half of the eighth inning as catcher Tyler Rieth started the inning with a leadoff walk.  He was then lifted for a pinch-runner, Chris Sideli, who would move to third off a successful hit-and-run by senior Gerald Amerosi.  Graduate student Vinny Todino would then ground into a double-play, but that would push across what would be the game's only run of the afternoon.

In a tightly contested pitcher's duel, starter Mike Russo suffered the loss for Kean (1-1).  Russo tossed eight innings allowing three hits and four walks while fanning eight.  Reliever Anthony Mongelli picked up the win for the Dolphins.  He tossed three innings allowing two walks and one hit.  Starter Brian Rush received a no-decision, but pitched equally as effective allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out six.

Both teams combined for just seven hits, with no player compiling multiple hits in the contest.

Of the Cougars three hits, two were doubles by seniors Steve Sanguilano and Eddie Jennings.
