WEST DIVISION

 

HITTER OF THE WEEK

Matt Thompson, 1B, Sr., McMurry

McMurry senior first baseman Matt Thompson (Southlake, TX / Carroll HS) went 8-for-10 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs to fuel a three-game series sweep over East Texas Baptist. Thompson, who hit both of his homers in a 5-0 win in the opener, also scored seven runs and walked three times. He had at least two hits and one RBI in each game.

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Spencer Smith, RHP, Jr., McMurry

McMurry junior right-hander Spencer Smith (Amarillo, TX / AHS) tossed a complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts to beat East Texas Baptist in the three-game series opener. Smith scattered three hits over the nine frames. It was the War Hawks' first shutout of the season.

 

EAST DIVISION

 

HITTER OF THE WEEK

Jeremy Simmons, OF, Sr., Mississippi College

Mississippi College senior outfielder Jeremy Simmons (Perkinston, MS / Miss. Gulf Coast CC) went 8-for-15 with five doubles and seven RBIS over four games, including a 36-9 road win over Sul Ross State. Simmons went 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored four times in the offensive-outburst that was just two runs shy of matching the conference single-game record for runs. Simmons scored eight runs and walked twice on the week. He had at least one RBI in every game.

 

CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK

Parker Sheets, RHP, Sr., Texas-Tyler

Texas-Tyler senior right-handed pitcher Parker Sheets (Irving, TX / MacArthur HS) tossed 10 scoreless inning with seven strikeouts and no walks over two appearances. Sheets earned the win over Schreiner by going eight innings, scattering seven hits. He added two innings of relief in a 4-2 mid-week win over Austin College.

 

Max Willard, RHP, Sr., Texas-Dallas

Texas-Dallas senior right-hander Max Willard (Dallas, TX / Garland Christian HS) recorded a save in each of the Comets' three road games against Howard Payne. Willard tossed a combined four scoreless innings with four strikeouts and just one walk. He scattered five hits.

 
 

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES:

HITTERS: Louisiana College DH Matt Scott went 6-for-18 with three home runs over a 2-2 week. . . . Texas-Tyler C Hayden Chick went 8-for-14 with five RBIS over a 4-0 week. . . . LeTourneau 3B Nate Tomaszewski went 9-for-17 with two doubles and two stolen bases over five games. . . . Texas-Dallas SS Jacob Starnes went 5-for-13 with two doubles and three stolen bases over a 3-1 week. . . . Ozarks SS Mitchell Powers hit .333 over four games and earned a win on the mound. . . . Sul Ross State 2B Mike Apodaca went 8-for-12 with six RBIs and a walk-off home run against MC. . . . Concordia Texas OF Brent Schaekel went 10-for-19 and extended his hitting streak to 23 games. . . . Texas Lutheran SS Daniel Yancelson had three hits, walked four times and played error-less defense over three games. . . . Howard Payne OF Ryan Abbott went 6-for-13 over five games. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor OF Braden Embry went 6-for-15 with a homer and five RBIs over four games. . . .Hardin-Simmons OF Jay Hiller went 5-for-13 with a triple over five games.

PITCHERS: Louisiana College LHP Dustin Fulks tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings and earned a win against Texas Lutheran. . . . Mississippi College LHP Scott Trousdale beat Millsaps by going 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts. . . . Ozarks RHP Tyler Erickson went the distance in a 2-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor. . . . LeTourneau RHP Ryan Whitehead allowed just two earned runs over six innings of work against Concordia Texas. . . . Concordia Texas LHP Scott Hays beat LeTourneau by not allowing an earned run over five innings with nine strikeouts. . . . Texas Lutheran RHP Brad Orosey went eight innings, allowing just two earned runs in a no-decision against LC. . . . Howard Payne RHP Reed Payne struck out 10 batters and scattered three hits over six innings in a win over Dallas Christian. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor RHP Cameron Arnett struck out 10 batters over seven innings and earned a win against Ozarks.
