MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Junior closer Ryan Fleischmann picked up his 12th career save, tying the Christopher Newport University all-time record (Kevin Moreland '09), and the #3 Captains improved to 11-2 overall with a 3-1 win over Penn State-Berks today.

Fleischmann pitched the ninth inning and gave up one hit to close out his fourth save of the year. He had eight last season as a sophomore and has tied the career record just 13 games into his junior season.

The junior's save guaranteed sophomore Nick Santalucia's win. The lefty gave up just one earned run in seven innings of work, striking out seven and issuing just one free pass. Richard Lindsay bridged the gap with one inning of shutout work in the eighth.

The Nittany Lions pitching staff had a solid day, holding the potent Captains attack to just six hits and three runs scored. Seniors Shannon Mark, Matt Shoemaker, Steven Lindemuth and Luke Saunders each had one hit, joined by sophomore Billy Steel and rookie Preston Grissom.

CNU will conclude it's annual Spring Break trip in Myrtle Beach on Thursday, as they take on Penn State-Harrisburg at 3:00 pm. The Captains will then travel to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on Methodist University in USA South action this weekend.
