Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Kiel Jandra (Oceanside, Calif.) and junior Henry Zhu (Overland Park, Kan.) combined for 8.2 shutout innings on the hill to lead the Massachusetts Institute of Technology baseball team to 4-0 and 4-2 wins over the Trinity College Bantams in a baseball doubleheader today, played at Central Connecticut State University. The games were the first of the season for Trinity, which starts the year with an 0-2 record, while MIT improves to 3-2 on the season with their third straight win.

The Engineers pitching was on fire despite the cold weather, as the Trinity offense mustered just two runs on the afternoon. Trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning of Game 2, Trinity tallied the season's first run on an RBI double by freshman DH Bryan Wolfe (La Habra Heights, Calif.), in his second career at-bat as a Bantam. MIT answer with one of their own in the top of the fifth, before Trinity scored another on a two-bagger by junior Michael Rueger (Teaneck, N.J.) in the bottom half of the inning. The Trinity offense could not extend an offensive rally, as MIT's relief unit finished the job.

Jandra threw six shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out six in Game 1 for the Engineers, while Zhu closed the door with a perfect seventh inning, picking up two strikeouts. Zhu added a save in Game 2 with 1.2 perfect innings and two more strikeouts. Junior Aric Dama (Winfield, Ill.) earned the win on the mound in Game 2 after throwing five innings with seven strikeouts, while allowing just two runs. The score was a bit misleading, as Trinity pitching allowed just one earned run in 14 innings today, as the Engineers took advantage of four Trinity defensive errors.
