LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior Mike Decembrino's (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) suicide squeeze with one out in the bottom of the eighth broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Washington and Lee baseball team to a 3-2 win over Albertus Magnus on Sunday afternoon at Cap'n Dick Smith Field.

The Generals (6-8) trailed 2-0 entering the eighth before mounting their rally. Junior Will Salley (Augusta, Ga./Westside) led off the inning with a single and then moved to third on a single to right by junior Alex Maragos (Chicago, Ill./Loyola). Junior Alex Mait (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) then laid down a sacrifice bunt that put runners on second and third with one out.

Albertus Magnus (0-1) brought in Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn./Manchester CC) to relieve starter Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn./Sacred Heart) and he intentionally walked sophomore Keegan Dolan (Bethesda, Md./Landon) to load the bases.

First-year Taylor Rowe (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), making his first collegiate start, then laced a line drive that glanced off Levchuk and rolled into right field scoring two runs and tying the game at 2-2. Senior C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) followed with a single to right center to load the bases once again and bring up Decembrino. On a 0-1 pitch, Decembrino laid down a bunt towards the first base line as Dolan broke for home with, ultimately, the game-winning run.

Levchuk was able to retire the next two Generals and keep the Falcons within a run entering the ninth.

Senior Joe Gannett (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) worked the ninth and after allowing a one-out single to junior Rob Gambardella (North Haven, Conn./North Haven), induced junior Matt Caputo (East Haven, Conn./East Haven) into a game-ending 5-4-3 double play to earn the save.

Sophomore Nate Plein (El Cajon, Calif./St. Augustine) picked up the win with a strong effort out of the bullpen. He tossed 5.0 innings in relief of first-year starter Matt Hedberg (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park). He did not allow a run while yielding only two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Hedberg pitched the first 3.0 innings, surrendering two runs on three hits and three walks.

W&L out hit Albertus Magnus, 13-6, with 13 singles. Maragos finished the day a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with one run scored for W&L. Salley, Decembrino and Rowe all finished 2-for-4. Salley scored one run, while Rowe drove in a pair of runs and Decembrino had one RBI. Decembrino also had a pair of outfield assists, including gunning down Caputo at the plate to end the fourth inning.

Finkenzeller started for the Falcons and threw 7.1 innings. He allowed just two runs, despite giving up 10 hits. He also struck out four. Levchuk finished with one run allowed on three hits and a walk in 0.2 innings.

First-year Fanol Prevalla (Berlin, Conn./Northwest Catholic) and Gambardella both went 2-for-4 for Albertus Magnus. Prevalla's two-run single in the second accounted for all of the Falcon's runs.

The Generals return to action on Tuesday when they host Stevenson at 3:00 pm.
