AUBURNDALE, FL-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team came from behind to defeat Amherst, 4-2, in the first game of the Corsairs' spring trip at Lake Myrtle Field #2 Saturday.

UMass Dartmouth took the lead for good in the top of the sixth when junior catcher Matt Worden (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to break a 2-2 tie. Freshman second  baseman Nate Farias (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) singled home an insurance run in the ninth.

Trailing, 2-0 after the first inning, the Corsairs got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single by sophomore center fielder Wayne Bolz (Billerica, MA/Billerica Memorial HS) and tied it in the fifth on a run-scoring single by freshman right fielder Luke Bomback (Somerset, MA/Case HS).

Sophomore Karney Boff (Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) started and earned the victory, pitching eight innings, allowing two runs and nine hits while walking one and striking out five to improve his record to 2-0. Junior Tyler White (Westport, MA/Westport HS/Massasoit CC) pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his first save.

"I was pleased with the way we played," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Prince. "When you get good pitching, you don't give away extra base runners by giving up walks or committing errors, and you play sold defense, you put yourself in a position to win. We turned three double plays in the game, and we only made one error."

Bolz, Bomback, Farias and freshman first baseman Alex Newton (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy/Franklin Pierce) each had two hits for UMass Dartmouth.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Amherst dropped to 0-0 with the defeat.  The Corsairs will return to action when they meet Western New England in Winter Haven, FL Sunday.
