Rhodes Defeats Hendrix 7-4

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated visiting Hendrix College 7-4 in non-conference action this afternoon at Stauffer Field. Hendrix jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after the second, but the Lynx tied the game at 4 after the fourth and took the lead for good with a single run in the fifth. Sophomore RHP Strother White improved to 2-0 on the year and senior RHP Brian Lainoff picked up his 2nd save of the season. Junior 3B Channing Arndt hit his first homerun of the season with a solo shot in the bottom of the second.

Sophomore RHP Strother White made his 2nd start of the season, working the first 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, and struck out 1. White is now 2-0 on the year. Sophomore LHP Max Halasz worked the 6th and 7th and did not allow a runner to reach base. Junior RHP Stuart Voges worked the 8th for Lynx and did not allow a hit. Junior RHP James Todd record the first out of the 9th before handing the ball over to senior RHP Brian Lainoff. Lainoff would only need 2 pitches to get the game ending double play.

The Lynx offense was led by junior 3B Channing Arndt who was 1-3 on the day with a homerun, 2 runs scored, an RBI, and walked once. Senior CF Travis Perkins was 1-3 with 2 runs scored, got hit by a pitch, and stole 2 bases. Junior 1B Matt Killary was 1-3 with an RBI. Sophomore RF Patrick Kilkenny was 1-3 with a run scored and got hit by a pitch. Sophomore LF Walker McWherter was 0-2 with two runs scored, walked once, got hit by a pitch, and stole 2 bases.

Rhodes will return to action this weekend with a 3 game set at home against Birmingham-Southern. First pitch on Saturday is set for 12:00.
