Schuldt Throws Gem in Cortland's 11-0 Win vs. Plattsburgh

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Aaron Schuldt (Liverpool) allowed three hits and two walks and struck out a career-high 14 batters in seven scoreless innings as nationally 14th-ranked Cortland won its home opener versus Plattsburgh, 11-0, in a SUNYAC contest. The Red Dragons (15-5-1, 3-1 SUNYAC) will host the Cardinals (12-8, 4-3 SUNYAC) again on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Schuldt, now 4-0, combined with freshman Ryan McAlary (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) for the shutout. McAlary gave up just one hit and struck out one over the final two innings.

Sophomore Max Rosing (Rockville Centre/South Side) led Cortland's 13-hit attack by going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Sophomore Tim Panetta (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and senior Matt June (Colonie) was 2-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored.

In addition, junior John Adornetto (Commack) was 2-for-4 with a triple, walk and three runs scored and junior Michael LaTempa (LaGrangeville/Arlington) ended 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.

Bobby Piser started for Plattsburgh and allowed eight runs, six earned, in five innings. He gave up nine hits and one walk. Pedro Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with a walk at the plate for the Cardinals.

Cortland scored three in the first on an Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings) RBI double, a Rosing RBI single and a Chris Jackson (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) sacrifice fly. The Red Dragons added a run in the fifth on a Rosing sacrifice fly and broke the game open with six runs in the sixth on a LaTempa RBI single, a two-run double by Bryan Mistretta (Commack), a two-run single by Rosing and a Zack Graczyk (Carmel) RBI groundout.

Cortland's final run came in the eighth when Adornetto tripled off the fence in right and scored on a wild pitch.

Plattsburgh's best scoring opportunity arose in the fourth inning. Kris Cauchon led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and took third on a one-out groundout. Schuldt struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Schuldt struck out three batters in the first and fifth innings and two batters in three other innings. Cortland's defense also turned two double plays.
