Hartford, Conn. – Senior RHP Edward Donovan (Milton, Mass.) pitched six innings of relief and allowed just five hits and one run with seven strikeouts to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-3 victory over the visiting Wheaton College Lyons in baseball action this afternoon. Trinity, tied as the No. 3-ranked team in New England, improves to 19-5 with its 12th consecutive win, while Wheaton, ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 10 in the nation, falls to 20-4 with its first loss in six games.

Trinity took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior tri-captain Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) singled and freshman Brian Wolfe (La Habre, Calif.) walked, before both runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a two-run double by senior C Luke Auger (Avon, Conn.). The Bantams added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth frames on a two-out, two-run double to left-center by rookie 2B Kyle Decker (Simsbury, Conn.) and a solo homer down the left field line by junior OF Michael Rueger (Teaneck, N.J.), respectively.

Wheaton had opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning on a two-out RBI single to left field by freshman 1B Apolinar De la Cruz (Providence, R.I.), and led, 2-0, in the middle of the third frame when junior SS Eric Jensen (Gorham, N.H.) led off with a single and scored on a passed ball. The Bantams took a 3-2 with three runs in the bottom of the third, including the go-ahead run on a single by Wolfe. Jensen belted an RBI double in the fourth frame to tie the game at 3-3.

Donovan relieved junior starter Ben Goldberg (Plainview, N.Y.) with two outs in the third inning and stifled the Wheaton bats into the ninth before sophomore righty Peter Burrows (Floral Park, N.Y.) earned his second save in as many games by recording a groundout with runners on first and second base. Decker was 2-for-2 offensively for the Bantams. Junior RHP Corey Laliberte (Fall River, Mass.) took the loss, allowing five runs in 4.1 innings, while Jensen and De la Cruz each had two hits for the Lyons.
