RIC Wins Seventh Straight in, 8-3, Victory at UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Rhode Island College scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead and went on to defeat UMass Dartmouth's baseball team, 8-3,  in a Little East Conference game played at the UMass Dartmouth Complex on Monday afternoon.
 
Rhode Island College (17-8, 4-1 LEC) wins for the seventh consecutive time. UMass Dartmouth fell to 11-12 and 1-4 in the Little East Conference with the defeat.
 
RIC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by freshman right fielder Dean Grasso (Cranston, RI). Freshman right fielder Luke Bomback's (Swansea, MA) RBI double in the bottom of the fourth tied the score, but a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth by senior catcher J.P. Stone (Narragansett, RI) gave the Anchormen a 2-1 lead.
 
The Corsairs went on top with two in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman left fielder Kyle Palen (Becket, MA) singled home one run and freshman center fielder Ryan Medeiros (Acushnet, MA) singled home another.
 
RIC seized the lead with their four-run rally in the top of the sixth. Grasso tied the game with a single, junior second baseman Joan Mustafa (Providence, RI) untied it with a two-run double and senior center fielder Victor Baez (Providence, RI) made it 6-3 with a run-scoring single.
 
Senior shortstop Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) drove in a run for RIC in the top of the eighth with a single to make it 7-3, and Grasso doubled home the final run for the Anchormen in the ninth.
 
Junior right-hander David Hoey (Lincoln, RI) pitched the first seven innings for RIC, and earned the victory, improving to 3-0. Freshman right-hander Nick Carafa (Mansfield, MA) started for UMD pitched the first six innings and took the loss to fall to 1-4.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play with a doubleheader at Keene State on Saturday, April 14 (noon).
