Baseball: Titans Split with Saint Vincent; Win 20th Game of the Year

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College baseball team won its 20th game of the season with a split in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Saint Vincent today. The Titans lost 12-3 in game one, but regrouped and won 5-3 in the nightcap. Westminster improved to 20-10 overall and 11-3 in the PAC, while the Bearcats go to 19-11 overall and 9-8 in league play.

Down 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning in the game two, Westminster took the lead after three different Titans homered. Junior Tyler Robinson (Creston, PA / Norwayne) led off the inning with a solo shot to left center. One batter later, senior David Schafer (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) homered to the same location. After senior Chuck Hedland (New Castle, PA / Union) drew a walk, classmate Steve Perrotta (New Castle, PA / New Castle) belted one over the left field fence. This marked Perrotta's first collegiate home run of his career.

Junior Scott Hanicak (Ellwood City, PA / Laurel) got the win. He pitched four innings and gave up three runs off five hits. Hanicak walked four batters and struck out two.  Classmate Nick Grow (North East, PA / North East) earned his second save on the year. Grow pitched three scoreless innings and only gave up one hit. He walked none and fanned three.

In game one, tied 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning, Saint Vincent poured in eight runs off nine hits. Westminster's sophomore Ron Sullivan (Boardman, OH / Canfield) got the loss and goes to 3-1 on the year. Sullivan threw 5.1 innings and gave up 10 runs off 10 hits. He walked one and fanned three.

Junior Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex) led the Titans with two RBIs, including a triple which is his second of year.  

The Titans are back in action Saturday as they host No. 25 ranked Washington and Jefferson in a PAC doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
