Freshman Connor Dillman set new Emory University freshman records for wins and strikeouts, leading the Eagles to a 10-5 win at LaGrange College on Wednesday night.

Dillman improved to a team-best 8-1 on the season with the victory, breaking former Eagle Jon Lee's freshman record of seven wins, set during the 1997 season.  The righty also struck out 10 batters over his six innings of work, giving him 76 for the season to surpass former Eagle Jeff Kramer's freshman record (70 strikeouts in 1992).  Dillman allowed four runs on four hits and four walks in the outing.

Dillman was aided by fellow freshman Wes Peacock, who scored the first run of the game in the second inning on an RBI double from Mark Lindemann, and broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning with a two out, two RBI double.  The Eagles added another run in the third on a Warren Kember RBI single, and went on to extend their lead with two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the ninth.

Peackock finished the game two-for three, adding on a stolen base and two runs scored.

Senior Connor McGuiness relieved Dillman after six innings, throwing an inning and two thirds of perfect baseball, striking out two batters.  Junior Mike Bitanga closed out the game by pitching the final inning and a third, allowing one unearned run.

Sophomore Jared Welch went two-for-five in the game, extending his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest this year by an Emory player.  Senior Jay Page added a one-for-four performance with a double, driving in three runs during the game, while Lindemann was two-for-three with a double and a triple.

Emory improved to 24-11 on the season with the win.  Tyler Brooks (2-1) started the game for LaGrange and took the loss, as the Panthers fell to 14-25 for the campaign.

The Eagles will open a home-and-home series at Oglethorpe University on Saturday, facing the Stormy Petrels at 2:00 PM.
