Mahwah, N.J. (4/27/12) – Rookie Andy Lopez was 2-for-3 with two RBI as he helped the #10/13 Kean University baseball to a 10-3 win over #24/28 Ramapo College on Friday afternoon in NJAC action.

Kean improves to 27-9 this season and 12-4 in NJAC play while Ramapo falls to 27-10 and 9-7 in conference play.

The Cougars got on the board in the second as senior Dylan Laguna led off with a single.  He would score on the next play as sophomore Joe O'Connor lined an RBI triple.  He would cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from Lopez to give Kean a 2-0 lead.  In their half of the fourth the Cougars made it 6-0 thanks to an RBI bunt single from sophomore Nick Zucchero in addition to RBI singles from sophomore Shane Alvarez and senior Steve Sanguiliano.

Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the fourth scoring on a bases loaded double play and later on an RBI infield single from John Capuano, cutting Kean's lead to 6-2.

Both teams traded singles runs before Kean tacked on three more with single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth.  Lopez recorded his second RBI of the day with an RBI single in the seventh while Laguna provided a two-out RBI single in the eighth.  Alvarez closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the ninth to give Kean its final of 10-3.

Starter Mike Russo earned the win.  Russo (5-1) allowed three runs, two earned, in five and a third innings of work.  He fanned five and walked four.  Rookie Charles Thielmann earned his first collegiate save.  Thielmann tossed three and two thirds innings allowing just two hits with two strikeouts.

Offensively Sanguiliano was 3-for-6 while Zucchero, Alvarez and Laguna each finished with two.

The Cougars close out the NJAC regular season on Saturday when they host William Paterson University in an NJAC doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m.
