Greensboro Falls 3-2 to LaGrange in the Ninth Inning

The Pride baseball team (8-7, 4-7 USA South) dropped a tough one to LaGrange (5-8, 5-6 USA South) on Saturday afternoon. Greensboro tied the game late before allowing a run in the bottom of the ninth to fall to the Panthers 3-2.

Greensboro got on the board first with one run in the third inning. Kyle Willard got things going reaching base on a fielder's choice, before advancing to second a wild pitch. Steven Pfeiffer plated Willard on a single to right field for the early 1-0 lead. LaGrange would counter with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

In the sixth inning The Pride would get the bats going to tie the game at 2-2. Matt Irwin started it with a single to center field then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jordan Powell moved Irwin to third on a sacrifice bunt, before James Feldmann scored Irwin with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Greensboro would threaten in the ninth inning with a runner on third but would be unable to score. The Panthers took advantage and scored the game winning run in the bottom half of the inning on a single through the left side, handing Greensboro the 3-2 loss.

The Pride were led by Irwin and Pfeiffer with two hits apiece. Feldmann and Pfeiffer had one run batted in. Alex Zapata pitched seven strong innings allowing two runs on five hits.

Greensboro will look to win the three game series tomorrow against LaGrange. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m
