Big Blue Win Season Opener

More news about: Millikin

The Big Blue had its first five games postponed due to weather and had to move this game to the artificial surface field since Sunnyside Park is not yet ready to go due the recent snowy weather.

Millikin wasted little time getting the offense going scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Andrew Hendrian and Dan Weber got the offense going with one out singles.  Hendrian would score the Big Blue's first run on a RBI groundout by Robert Smith.  Theo Facer then doubled to score Weber and Jim Panozzo closed out the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single.

Millikin scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth with Panozzo picking up an RBI walk and Brian Dixon and Kyle Davidson each driving runs home on singles.

Millikin scored its final three runs in the seventh inning thanks in part to two Beavers' errors.  Davidson had another RBI single for Millikin and Hendrian drove him the Big Blue's final two runs with a base hit.

Davidson was 3-6 with two RBIs in the leadoff spot for Millikin.  Hendrian was 2-5 with two RBIs in the two spot in the order and number three hitter Weber was 2-4.

Logan Bolton earned the win on the mound for Millikin throwing three scoreless innings and allowing two hits.  Davidson, Evan West and John Steele each threw hitless innings for Millikin.

Millikin will return to action on Saturday.  The tournament originally scheduled for Decatur on March 9-10 has been moved to St. Louis and will be split between Washington University-St. Louis' home field and Shaw Park in Clayton, Mo. the home field of Fontbonne University.  The Big Blue face Benedictine University at 12 p.m. and Fontbonne at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Washington University.
