Royals Take Advantage Of York's Miscues In 11-8 Victory

YORK, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team scored seven unearned runs with the help of five York errors, and the Royals also pounded out 10 hits en route to an 11-8 victory over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon at sunny Jaquet Field.

Sophomore first baseman Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) had three hits, including a double, as Scranton improved to 3-2. Senior shortstop Tim LeCompte (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) added a pair of hits and two runs, and the Royals got two RBIs each from junior catcher Eddie Ravert (Havertown, Pa./Malvern Prep), junior third baseman Mike Trabulsi (Malverne, N.Y./Chaminade) and sophomore second baseman Matt Maghini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand)

The Royals took a 1-0 lead on Danzig's two-out RBI single in the third, then doubled the lead when York couldn't handle Maghini's ground ball with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth.

Scranton then took control with five runs in the fifth. Junior designated hitter Eric Pizzico (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford), who scored twice, Ravert and Trabulsi each had an RBI single, and sophomore left fielder Michael Umerich (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) had an RBI fielder's choice. 

York (4-4) got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth, but Scranton answered right back with a four-run sixth. Ravert, who scored twice, Trabulsi, Maghini and freshman pinch hitter Ray Grapsy (Covington Township, Pa./North Pocono) all had RBIs in the rally.

Senior lefty Bobby Della Polla (Havertown, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) workedthe first six innings to get the win. He improved to 2-0 by holding York to three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out one.

The Spartans cut the lead to three with a five-run bottom of the eighth, but the Royals turned to sophomore righty Josh Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton), who worked the final 1 1/3 innings for his second save of the season. 

Scranton is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Wilkes-Barre Township to take on King's College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
