Tomcats drop game one of doubleheader to Case Western Reserve

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Baseball team was defeated by a score of 13-1 by Case Western Reserve in game one of their Saturday doubleheader at Tomcat Park.

After the Spartans got on the board first with four runs in the top of the third inning, Thiel came back with their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third when the Tomcats scored on a double play groundout to make it 4-1 in favor of the visitors.

The Spartans then responded with nine runs between the fourth and eighth innings including a five run fourth and a four run eighth. Seven different Case Western hitters' registered multi-hit games, with six different Spartans driving home at least one runner.

Case Western was led offensively by Andrew Gronski, who went 4-for-4 on the day, scoring three runs and registering two RBIs.

Offensively for the Tomcats, Nick Schiavoni and Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler) each registered a pair of hits in game one, with Schiavoni scoring the lone run for Thiel.

Thiel gets another crack at the Spartans, with game two of the doubleheader scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
