Greensboro Falls in USA South Tournment Opener to Christopher Newport 6-1

The #8 seed Greensboro baseball team fell to #1 seed Christopher Newport 6-1 in the opening round of the USA South tournament. The Pride will play the loser of Thursday's 1:00 p.m. game between #5 Piedmont and #4 LaGrange. The elimination game will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Fleming Stadium. Christopher Newport struck first with two runs in the second inning taking the early 2 -0 lead. The Captains added a run in the fourth, three in the fifth pushing the lead to 6-0. The Pride got on the board on in the seventh with a run. Steven Pfeiffer singled to get the inning going. Cody York moved Pfeiffer to second on an error by the shortstop. Aaron Navarro walked to load up the bases. A pinch hit single through the left side by Kyle Willard scored Pfeiffer to make it 6-1. Greensboro looked to tack on more runs but left the bases loaded falling 6-1. James Feldmann, Jordan Powell, Pfeiffer, and Willard recorded a hit. Willard had one run batted in. Greensboro is now 15-23 overall.
