UMHB beats Texas Wesleyan 10-6

Fort Worth, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team grabbed an early lead and then held off a late Texas Wesleyan rally as the Cru posted a 10-6 victory over the Rams Tuesday afternoon in Fort Worth. UMHB improves to 19-17 on the year with the victory. The loss snaps Texas Wesleyan's 15-game winning streak and drops the Rams to 34-13 on the season.

The Cru took a 2-0 lead on Seth Mogavero's RBI single and a run-scoring error in the top of the first inning. Will Stafford stole home in the top of the fourth to make it 3-0 and RBI singles from Chris Florack and Jake Ricketts pushed it to 5-0 in the fifth. Ricketts doubled home two more in the seventh to make it 7-0. Garrett Webb doubled home two runs in the eighth and Parker Edmonds added an RBI single to stretch the lead to 10-0. Texas Wesleyan scored four in the bottom of the eighth and added two more in the ninth before the Cru escaped with the victory.

Webb led UMHB with four hits to take Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game honors. Ricketts and Chase Burrow added two hits apiece as UMHB put together 13 hits. Danny Horstman allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings to get the win and move to 3-1 on the season. Five Cru pitchers combined on a nine-hitter in the victory.

UMHB will now return home to close out the regular season with a three-game, non-conference series against LeTourneau University Friday and Saturday at Red Murff Field. The Cru has already clinched a berth in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. UMHB will be either the #2 or #3 seed from the ASC West Division in that tournament.
